Hi all,

So today, I let my Guinea pig stan, out in his run outside to chew on some dandelions. Unfortunately he made a sound and saw he had got his foot caught in the wooden frame at the bottom :c

I've taken him out, being very careful of course, this was an accident do please don't hate me. Ive rang the vets but unfortunately they only had appointments at 5.30pm when I have work at 5pm till midnight, so I'm ringing them back up tomorrow morning at 8.30am to get a on the day appointment.

He's currently not putting any weight on it (which is expected) but he's holding his back paw up, keeping resting on the other side, he's hoping and not putting anything on it, he can still feel it as I've gently squeezed it a tiny bit, no not harshly or anything to cause anything else, but he's squeaking when touching it, it's also still warm, so I'm guessing blood in still flowing, and he is nibbling on his hay and resting.

Aw, poor Stan, don’t feel bad, sometimes accidents happen and you are not to blame x the vet will be able to tell you what the problem is and give him pain killers. Hopefully he will be on the mend soon x

Poor Stan. Accidents happen and of course we don't hate you. You couldn't have foreseen this happening. The good thing is you are getting him to the vet as soon as you can. The vet will be able to diagnose what the problem is.

These things do happen. Best thing is to try to keep him comfy and make everything easy for him in a smaller cage with everything he needs close to hand. Do you have any metacam that you could give to him while you are waiting to see the vet?

Sorry about the long wait on the replies. I really appreciate everyone's kindness! It means a lot. I've honestly been putting myself down about the accident and feeling so bad about myself, unfortunately I don't have any metacam l, but on the bright side, he's laid in his hay, squeaking for some breakfast, he's got the best at 12.10pm today.

Please don't put yourself down!, it happens even when you're watching them. We went out once and returned to one of the boys not weight bearing on his back leg. I don't know what happened but guessed he jumped off the ramp and injured himself.

He will be ok. You got him out quickly so pat yourself on the back for that :)

So, took him to the vets, they've checked him over. They're sure it's just a sprain. But he's on metacam for the next weeks on a dosage of 0.5ml. But they have said, if it isn't any better and he is still bunny hopping everywhere by Friday then to come in and he will need a xray and to be sedated.

They checked everything and his muscle is still spasming, he is using his lower foot, just not sure if its fractured or not. Hopefully not. But plenty of rest and metacam!

I agree with the others. Accidents happen.
When Jemimah was a baby out for her first free ranging play she managed to tear a nail out.
Lots of blood, panicking owner and she didn’t care a bit!

You got Stan to the vets and it’s nothing serious so all is well.
