Hello, I am from Delhi, India. I have a pair of piggies about 3 months old. Nut is weaker than Bolt. about 3 days ago, Nut was playing in my hands and laps over the couch and then after i picked her up to get her back into her cage, she jumped from my hand back onto the couch and the height wasn't that much. But at first, she acted weird and then, that was the most heart breaking thing. Her left leg was floppy then. The next day after not seeing any improvement, i took her to the vet, he asked me for the x-ray, but i wasn't sure, because she is so small and xrays can harm her badly. So the vet gave him some injections and asked me to come after a day or two if no improvement is seen. When i insisted on what to give her for her weakness, he gave a syrup called Anima Strath(smells really bad and Nut doesn't like it as well, but bolt at times tries to have it makes me think that she likes it). So its been one day and i see that nut is getting weaker day by day, which is definitely killing me. I just want a solution for my nut, she is like the best animal for me, she always greets me when i come back home from my college by whistling and she is just so cute. I want to see her pop corning over her bedding just like before. i want her to see following bolt endlessly and i want her to be happy. Please someone help me out with this. This is killing me...

Hi and welcome!

Your piggy definitely needs an x-ray and some painkillers (have you got metacam in India?). How much is she weighing? She doesn't need to be put under full anaestetics for an x-ray.

You also need to start to syringe feed and water any guinea pig that is not eating properly because otherwise the guts will slow down and eventually stop working. Please weigh her daily to monitor the food intake, ideally at the same time of the day before you feed your piggies. Here is our illustrated step-by-step guide. Step in if she has lost 50g or more and just offer top up if she is still eating: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Right now i don't have anything like vitamin c or anything, can i give her the glucose solution via syringe feeding method?

Is your guinea pig eating normally or not? Especially, is she eating hay, which should make up to 80% of the daily food intake? That is the crucial point. if she is, then you need to not to panic yet. Can you weigh her? Cheap scales will do.

Have your got pellets that you can soak in boiled water? Glucose can be only a very short term fix to pep her up for a few hours, but not keeping the guts moving. For that you need a fibrous base and some bulk.

Can you get human vitamin C tablets from the supermarket? About 1/8 - 1/4 a day will do for the short term. They are not absolutely essential if your guinea pig is still eating vegetables rich in vitamin C like fresh coriander.

The thing is, she is not having anything and currently its 12:00 am in india so its hard to get something from market, however i mixed some lemon juice and glucose in little amount of water and fed her, she's asleep now and will take her to vet tomorrow in the morning...

Plus there i saw a pet food supplier... any recommendation for some food that i can buy there?

Pellets are mainly for vitamins, especially vitamin C. Check the ingredients, you want hay as the main ingredient and a high vitamin c content. That way you can look if no one is aware of brands to purchase in India and make a decision for yourself.

Thanks Cookie&glitter, well as a matter of fact, timothy hay is not grown in india, its imported from outside and sold at 1000 bucks per kilograms... and my piggies like the grass so i get fresh grass in the morning everyday and they consume it... and they kinda like it as well... generally whistle when i touch the box of grass

Lots of fresh veggies also. Not sure which you specifically have available but I know orange bell peppers are high in vitamin C. Dark leafy lettuce is great too

Thanks for your efforts, but Nut died on thursday, 28th april...
