My 3 year old piggy was fine all day, and all of a sudden she has started limping pretty badly. She is still eating and drinking and making the effort to get to her bottle and food bowl. However she seems to be lying on her side a lot, hunching in corners and tugging at fleece bedding.

I know no one but a vet can truly diagnose and I will book her an appointment very soon but can anyone share any light on this situation?

@Chelseaspiggies It's happened to my pigs a few times before. I assume they get their leg tangled in the hay, or hurt it somehow climbing the bars.

The vet will be able to check it to make sure it's not broken and give you some pain relief for her. (Tugging on fleece is a sign of pain). It's usually just a sprain and they are okay in a few days.

Thanks to you both. I was worried sick all night because I like to overthink and was worried she had had a stroke or something. She seems okay this morning, shes still limping on the back leg but seems her usual self

Just another question. If a piggy sprains a leg is it normal behaviour for them to lie on their side a lot and stretch to reach their food rather than walking?

Just a quick update everyone!

She seems to be walking much better today, is rumbling at her little cage mate as usual and trying to climb up the front bars of the cage for veggies. She seems her usual self again. So glad it was nothing serious.
