Hello. So my bday had gone and passed and sadly no shed for the guineas :(
So, I am having to re think possibilities for my piggies.

Currently all six are in my bedroom (it's a miracle I sleep!) and I feel like by them being inside their space is being limited as they are in three pairs, each in a ferplast 120.

My initial plan was to get a shed and fit hutches inside with the ability for a pair at a time to free roam the floor, and then possibly add a run extension. Although, my dreams aside it really isn't actually possible. We already have two sheds in our garden and the rest is on a steep slope apart from the small patio outside the back door.

So, I am now thinking large hutches? I have found somebody an hour and a half away from me that makes custom hutches. I asked for a quote on a three tier hutch suitable to go outdoors which was 6ft x 30 inch deep x 20 inch high on each level. I think this is suitable?

Anyway the reply was:
'All of our hutches are made of 1/2 inch thick wood cladding that is treated with 2 coats fo cuprinol timbercare. The floors are made of 9mm exterior plyboard and the roof is made from 12mm osb board covered with shed felt. A hutch of that size would be £250. '

Would you say this is good? Delivery is £30.

I am now contemplating whether three tier high would be too high for me, I'm 5ft 5. So I had the idea of getting a two tier of the same size, along with one of the same size on top of a run (not neccessarily with a ramp). So that the run is available to alternate pairs of pigs throughout the day. This would be on the patio area, does that sound good? Or like a strange idea?

Please help me, I just want them to be as happy as possible. Although I am going to miss having them next to me all the time :(

I'd say for that money you could buy a decent shed then won't have to worry so much in the winter about what to do with them.

Have you thought about just a C&C cage indoors ?

Moving pigs from indoors to outdoors is a big step in temperature and things.

I decided on a custom indoor hutch.
It's going to have three levels and be 4ft x 2ft, fitting where their cages are now. It's going to have a storage area underneath and wire panels on the side as well as front to allow more light. It's being made especially to my requirements and delivered for £171. I'm well chuffed and excited. Will be arriving in about a week and a half.

Is your hutch going to be indoors or out? Just being nosey ;) I had the idea of using a hutch in my bedroom when I start to get decorated but worried about the heat aspect of it all, didn't want them to get too warm. I've caught the piggy housing bug rolleyes

Indoors. It's going to be specially made to go indoors though, so it wont be able to go outdoors if that makes sense? I'm hoping the extra mesh will help air floor/prevent it getting too hot. Will also use other measures if it does e.g. cooling pads.

I'm going to decorate the hutch so it matches my bedroom too :)

I'm the same height and our main set up is just over 6ft tall. I use a little step to reach the top pens but my OH is 6ft 6" so he tends to see to them :))
Sounds exciting having their new home on order - pigtures very soon please :(|)

The decorating part was my thoughts exactly. ;)
I'm into ivory wooden furniture and seeing that you can paint them easily gave me the idea, i'd also be able to create storage ontop of the hutch for their bits.
There is also alot more space for the piggles than their standard ferplast cage that they have at the moment, and if the hutch has like an attached run at the bottom, itl be alot more room for them. My only thoughts was the problem that the hutches are made for outside and the fact that I wont be able to see them as much as I can now.
I'm looking forward to pigtures!

Will definitely post pictures when it arrives ! Mine are in ferplast cages too!

The hutch has arrived! The base of each compartment is wood. Does anybody what/how I could line the bottom to stop wee soaking in/ help cleaning? X

They have an adhesive backing, so peel and stick! It's incredibly easy, I have them in one of my hutches.

Yeah found out that now ! My OH (Greatest OH ever) is now fitting them to all three levels!
