Hutch question.

Just wondered if anybody has one of the two storey hutches for their piggies. I have them for my two dwarf rabbits but would be a bit scared of a guinea pig falling and hurting itself. I've noticed they do say suitable for guinea pigs though and I'm looking for a new hutch and didn't know whether to choose a large single one or a double one. :-\
 
we have a 4ft double hutch for both our groups. we slightly modified it.
first thing we did was shorten the opening on the top (the hatch), then we added a solid side to the ramp so that they couldn't jump down higher than is safe. It works fine, and they race up and down the ramp now.

this is new version of the hutch we bought, ideally we would have liked a 2ft wide hutch, but couldn't find one for a reasonably price that was flat pack

i have just brought that hutch it is easy to assemble the wood smells a bit for a few days it is a lovely solid hut easy to clean out i have 4 female piggies living in it with acess to outside run i would say 3- 4 piggies is the limit space wise my pigs love it
 
That's great - thanks for the info. O0 Probably only be 2 piggies living in it or 3 if I can somehow get an older female to live with two younger females. :)
 
Well its my birthday next week so I've sort of asked o.h if I could have that cos he never knows what to get me and our two new little piggies could do with somewhere for when they outgrow their indoor cage. :)

I was a bit concerned that the ramp may be too steep because it appears somebody had left a review and commented on the ramp being steep - for rabbits I wouldn't be worried but I would be scared of piggys popcorning and forgetting about the hole and falling right down.
 
Hi I'm new to this forum

just to let you know that we brought the thistle hall last weekend for our 2 piggies and they love it. no problems with the ramp.
 
That sounds great - I'm undecided now whether to get that one or the Nero 4 and stand. :-\ I did quite like the look of Thistle Hall if the ramp would be okay for them.
 
i've just transfered my piggy 2 a bigger hutch with 2 levels as i would like 2 get him a friend cause i think he's lonley :'(, the problem is he wont use the ramp, i've tried putting him half way up the ramp but he just jumps off.will he eventually use the ramp so he can have a friend ? :'(

some pigs don't ever, but saying that I personally think thats quite rare. All ours do. Pickle took loads of persuading.

some tips
1. improve the grip for the guinea pig - we silicone on roofing felt
2. use treats to entice them futher up - parsley is ours favorite treat
3. gently walk/nudge them up it
4. put a side on it so when half way up the feel safer and they cant jump off it
5. Be patient, guineas are sometimes just a bit rubbish.... but they get there in the end ::) :smitten:

i love my pigs, but I think they may fall into the 'rubbish' csategory :D
STILL can't go down a ramp. Up - absolutely no problem, but down just doesn't happen. I tried putting the 'nice' food downstairs to entice them, but I weakened before they did , as I felt really mean ;D
