Hi would a 4ft x 2ft hutch be ok for 3 piggies if they only were in it at night and had exercise in a 4ft x 3ft run or pen all day? I think I may have read that it was 5ft that was the minimum but what if it is only for night? Thanks :)

I'm going to be housing three soon. The hutch I've got is 4' x 2' but I am adding a mezanine to it as so:

This will give them around 10 sq ft of space which is equivilant to 5' x 2' - as I don't have room for a 5' long hutch! :)

I think piggies are active at night as well as in the day so if you can would suggest you upgrade to a 5 or even 6 foot hutch. They just love having as much space as possible. What sort of run/pen is it anyway, would they still use it if its raining for example?

I'm sure they would probably be happy enough (if it's three girls anyway) but would they be able to go out for exercise in the winter too? Or be in the hutch?

Obviously the bigger the better, but if you already have the hutch then I think I would just use it and see how they get on in it. All guinea pigs are different and people can't really say "it has to be exactly this size", so see how you feel about it when they're in there.

If it's three girls and they all get on really well, then I would make as much room as possibly for them to run around by making sure there aren't too many accessories or hidey houses, just lots of space.

To be honest, when I first adopted Erin taking my number from 2 to 3 piggies, I had 3 in a 4ft by 2ft until I brought a new hutch. There was just enough room for them but Erin was a baby at the time. I think it would have been a bit of a squeeze once Erin grew to be an adult x
