My niece is having 2 of our guinea pigs when they are 6 weeks old. Her Dad is building a hutch but when I saw it, I was a little concerned about the size. I'm not sure how big it is, but I really thought that it would not last the piggies very long. I just wondered if there is some sort of general guidance regarding the size a hutch should be, per guinea pig?

Thanks

The RSPCA minimum recommendation is 2x4 ft for 1-2 piggies, then add 2x1 ft for every extra piggy. I.e. 2x5 ft for three piggies, 2x6 ft for four piggies.

We strongly recommend 2x5 ft for two boars as they need more space when they go through the teenage hormones; lack of space can one of the main triggers for fights and fall-outs. You can find more information about how to best keep boars and get them through the difficult months in our boar guide.
