A little help, lol not a maths genious ;D How many feet width and length would be needed to house 5-6 piggies and how much is it in square feet :P

I'm drawing up plan for a new insulated htch dads making me ready for the piggie to move in around spring time but i needs it big enough to sneak an extra piggie or 2 in ;D

My dad was originally going to use the old rabbit hucth as a base but thats only 5 1/2ft x 3 1/2 with a 21/2ft x 2 1/ft second floor anyone know how many sqaured feet that is 98)

EDIT: ahhhhh oops i put it in the wrong sction, can a mod move t into the right place please, lol not concentraiting today ;D ;D

I'm here! ;D

5 pigs would be 7ft x 2ft, 8ft for 6 pigs. Square foot would be 14 for 7 ft and 16 for 8ft.

this may sound totally stupid but if say you had a 2 tier hutch that was 4 foot long on bottom and 4 foot on top (and 2 foot wide) does that make 8ft long in piggy cage talk? So could you keep 6 piggies in there ? These cage calculations are way over my head lol my hubby works it all out for me lol.

I think you must count it, but I dont think it should be counted...I mean most piggies will stay together on one of the floors, so there wont be enough space... :-\

Yup me agrees with this :) lol it's easy to work out really guys - just go by 4x2 = 2 piggies then add an extra foot to the length = 1 extra piggy each time.

Dazie - Hmm I'm not sure. Personally I wouldn't keep 6 piggies in a double 4x2 but it does create the same amount of floor space as a 8 x 2, just on two different levels. I think length is important too though - afterall, a pair needs 4x2 but it wouldn't be write to keep them in a four story 1x2 imo.

I think length is much more important than height, agree 100% there :)

I understand, I just cant be bothered to concentrate long enough to work out measurements ;D ;D ;D

i still dont understand 98)

::) You never do ;D ;D
4x2 = 2 pigs = 8 square foot
5x2 = 3 pigs = 10 square foot
6x2 = 4 pigs = 12 square foot
7x2 = 5 pigs = 14 square foot
8x2 = 6 pigs = 15 square foot

etc etc. See the pattern? ;D

Then if someone is asking about, say a 6x4 you just double the 6x2 :D

-shuts up- :P

no I wouldnt put 6 piggies in a 2 tier 4 foot hutch but I can see with those equations why some people would, I have a 3 tier hutch my 3 boys live in and apparently it homed 6 piggies before I got it and I wouldnt dream of keeping 6 in there.
When the rspca home checker came to see my set up she thought I could have had more than 3 in a 4 foot 2 tier hutch ?

No way, wouldn't put 6 guineas in that space. My 3 boys have 42 sq ft and 4 girls have 24 sq ft + a 3 tier hutch at the end. But I'm fanatical about lots of space!

I had an idea before. I have a 5 x 2 hutch could I add another level and house 6 pigs or am I right in thinking 5x2 double tier could house 4?

Now I'm confusing myself! ;D

I would be happy to keep four in a double 5x2. Four need 6x2 and because there are two levels on the 5x2 I think it would be fine.

Thanks Jane. Peter said he would convert the Lavander Lodge for me. I realised tonight there is so much wasted space in it. :)

My gosh has this thread ever confused me and it's my own ;D ;D ;D

So what does a 5 1/2ft x 3 1/2 ft with a second floor of 2ft x 2ft how much sq ft is that, does it even make sense ;D ;D

20 Square foot Kezza! :D

really and how many piggies do i for see living in there ;D ;D ;D

Nah thats my rabbits hucth but where building them new ones, and dad said he convert the rabbit pen because it's abit to hign he's gonna amke the height smaller so piggies can get upstairs but not taking away none of there actual space :D

Blss my poor father has no idea my intention sare really to make sure i can sqeeze another piggie or 2 in there ;D ;D

I have five in a Thistle Hall, but i am planning on putting some shelves in beacuse there is so much wasted space due to the height.

I have my rabbit in a Lavender Lodge and he obviously uses the height when he satnds up but even he has a little shelf to get up on 98)

Jelly, I have the Lavander Lodge too and the space wasted is crazy, another ramp whether I get my boys neutered or not would give them loads of room and perhaps we would be able to keep them unneutered with a 10x2 space they won't get on one anothers nerves. :)

Yeah if i kept my piggies in a Lavender Lodge (which was the original plan) it would have needed major reconstruction to use up the height.

I plan to put a corner shelf downstairs in the TH and a complete shelf in the bedroom part, well actually i plan on getting my dad to do it :laugh:
