Hi. My hutch is too hot today and it's worrying me a little.
Any tips how to cool it down?
I can't move it cos it's too heavy

Have you got a safe run you could place in the shade for your guinea pigs?
Otherwise, bring them indoors if that is cooler or contrive something that shades the hutch to prevent it from boiling. Guinea pigs can suffer heat stroke in a hutch in full sun!

More tips in this thread here: Hot Weather Management And Heat Strokes

They haven't had floor time yet as I've only had them a few days.
I've put the kids parachute over it, as that's all I had. Worried it's just going to make it hotter though as there's no breeze.
I know that's why I'm scared

do you have any ice packs? wrap in fleece or towel and put it somewhere the piggies can "snuggle" it. Or spray water, gently, into the top of the hutch so it helps to cool the air - try no to do it where the piggies are so they don't get wet themselves.

I don't have ice packs
Maybe I should bring them inside?

wet towel over the run,and ice pods,or frozen peas wrapped in a towel and plenty of cool water in bottle that piggies can sip from.maybe read forum thread that health and illness team suggest.good luck .:)

So I tried to get them out.
Big fat fail. Couldn't catch one of them. They are so fast! I feel so horrible scaring them that much!
Luckily, the hutch has shades over now and the sun has gone in a bit.
So hopefully it'll start cooling down.

put a thermometer in the hutch if it is over 76 degrees it is getting too hot for pigs

Have you read through the many tips in the link I have given you?
Like dampened, but not dripping towels (evaporating water cools the surrounding air), ice packs or frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel or fleece, melon and other juicy veg from the fridge etc.

I use frozen bottles of water covered in a tea towel or pillow case, plus fans (not blowing directly on the piggies) but mine are all in door guinea's so I can keep an eye on them.

Also in an emergency you can always bring them inside and put them somewhere cool like in a bathtub with a towel on the bottom.

Oh thankyou. Sorry I didn't see the link before. I'll have a good look.
