Hey guys, we've been picking a lot of fresh grass for our little guinea mates Milo & Oreo (4 months old) for the last couple of months... in fact, so much grass, it's getting harder and harder to find enough good stuff for them! Our (attempted) solution has been trying to grow our own trays of hydroponic grass for our little friends :-) They don't seem to like to cereal grasses such as wheat or barley so far, but they do definitely seem to enjoy munching on the perennial ryegrass shoots we've managed to grow. I guess they are tender and full of both water and protein since they're so young... yummy! There's photo of a tray in progress below.

My question is, does anybody have any suggestions for other "forage" like plants or herbs, etc that we could mix in with our hydroponic grass to add a bit of extra variety? I'm thinking we could just throw in some different seeds to the mix and see how they comes out! Since we only leave the trays to grow for 1-2 weeks at most before feeding them, I'm looking for ideas of species that would be tasty, nutritious and delicious in their young "shoot" stage after only a short period of growth :-)

Thanks so much!

Chris & Sam

That looks tasty 😍 I grow cat grass, but because England is such a bad place for anything going mouldy at this time of the year it's hard work making sure it's not too wet and gets some sunshine...
No idea what would grow within 1-2wks. Maybe you can grow it separately and mix it after cutting?
