So my dad might be allergic to Timothy hay and if I want to keep my Guinea pigs the Timothy hay needs to go. I did some research on hypoallergenic hay and the hay that popped up the most time was orchid grass hay. So I was wondering if I could give my Guinea pigs that hay instead of Timothy hay. Also if anyone has had to change hay because of allergies and got orchid grass hay please tell me if it helped.

Thank you!

I’ve not heard of orchid but have heard of orchard hay. The only way to know is to try. The other one you could try is meadow hay.

There are several members who have a hay allergy. I can only remember @rp1993 but there will be others.

Hello, I have quiet a bad allergy to Timothy Hay, we use Orchard Grass and I did take antihistamines every day for 18 months, I don’t really have issues anymore!

Should also add that I live in a flat and my pigs are in the living room so I’m around them constantly!

I use orchard or meadow and have hardly any reaction at all, whereas with timothy I can hardly breathe, I get chest pains, a tight throat etc, the difference is night and day.
It really is worth a try for allergies :)

Allergy medications can be bought in shops,eg Loratadine, certrilazine are anitihistamines that can help with a hay allergy.
