Well, in the past few weeks my boys have been comming out of their shells more, chatting away etc, (not in front of me, but while I'm in the room) Anyway, a couple of days ago i heard a wierd noise. I thought it might be one of them crying, so i asked flintstones if she could send me a video of patric crying, which she kindly did (sending patric lots of healing vibes at the moment.) anyway, It didnt sound exactly the same, But i did have them pee on a white towel(no sign of blood etc) but i was still non the wiser.

I didnt even know what they were doing when they made the noise. SO,i got my spy on, and have set up a webcam so i cam see their cage without stopping them going about their buisness!

Will they make the noise now ive got everything set up? NOOO they will not. mallethead rolleyes

But I'm going to persivere. :) Wish me luck!

Anyone else had to spy on their piggies secretly?

lmao! I've thought about doing this!
Two of my boys fell out last year and I did manage to rebond them successfuly over a weekend but the first few days back at work, man was I worried lol! So yeah, i thought about that to see if they;d been fighting whilst I was out.

On the subject of worrying sounds, I thought the pair of boys that had fallen out were at it again at xmas because I could hear flinn hooting from the living room. After careful observation (ok, stalking) I came to the conclusion he's just whingy! The other day he was hooting and it was just cos Winston was popcorning too closely for his liking, oh and then he couldnt get in his cuddle roll properly rolleyes so he whinged about that too.

So my point was that sometimes it's just their personal pitch and funny ways lol.

I have come to the conclusion that whatever the noise is, its not crying! I have seen them both back up to do a wee, and neither made a sound, just waddled off happily afterwards. Neither of them are loosing weight either.

It sounds like a... well, like an off wheek. Not as loud, a little bit weak and floppy. Like they get out one big WHEEK... wheeekkek, then trail off... Its hard to describe. But it does not appear to be pain related, so it looks like just another wierd quirk of my boys.

You made me laugh saying you'd spy on them, I thought about a piggy big brother! It's a good idea tho' if there's something wrong and you can catch it on camera. Might help the vet if they need medical help too. :)

Unfortunatly i cant actually record what I'm watching on the webcam! havnt got that far in learning how it works, but i can view it live, and that was enough of a help today :)

It could be the noise they make when one runs into another, I always describe that like a sort of a wheeeeek but with a Screech at the end tailing off....

Piggies have soooooo many noises, heard chriping again last week after I'd startled Treacle it was very eerie....

It seems to be something they just generally do, on and off while going about their buisness. Its like... its almost like they are trying to do whisper wheeking. So mommy doesnt know theyre chatting! but sometimes they get carried away and its a little louder. mallethead

I have had guinea pigs before, a few years ago, they were very vocal. Not at all like these two!

I'm just glad it doesnt appear to be pain related :)

I've thought about spying on my piggies! Since I adopted my rescue pig Bernadette, I just don't know how well she is getting on with the hutch! My piggies are outside but sheltered, and I just wish I could see her in her element. The sound of the back door opening still scares her a little bit and she retreats into the bedding area! :(

It worked very well for me, simply because my webcam lead reaches to where i hide with my laptop on the bed, but i imagine you would otherwise need a very long lead!

Have you gone thru the list of all the piggie noises to see if one them is similar love?

oh boys.......stop worrying your mummy! rolleyesxoxo

Unfortunatly it doesnt exactly sound like any of those, its like a cross between wheeking and whinning.

I dont really know what else there is i can do, I do feel happy that it isnt a pain noise (as they wonder about happily when making it, and even eat while making it!)

It seems to just be chatter... but it is not what you would call chuntering, Its not like they nose off while doing it, or even are anywhere near eachother when it happens....

I can see no common denominator out of any of the times i watched them do it today.. So, I'm not sure how i do get to the bottom of it! :)) Maybe my guinea pigs just dont know HOW to make the right noises?

I think they all have different ways of communicating........ i know they often say toofie chattering is them warning you off........ well in our house it's there way of say....... WHEE WANTS THE FOOD NOW.....NOT WHEN YOU IS READY MUM!

And sometimes they add bit to their wheeeeeks....some will be more high pitched than others.....Velvet can be ear splitting where as Onyx is more ladylike :)) BUT then it now seems to depend on their moods....... x)

Haha, it does seem like (whichever piggie is doing it, it mainly seems to be spice) is having a good old wheek..,. then halfway through a wheek he looses momentum and goes into whinging or chatting.. lol, right now they are making some equally wierd surprised popcorning noises

Well, atleast its not pain! And hopefully i may have given someone else an idea of how to spy on their piggies, if they suspect somethings up but they dont have lovely tame piggies yet! :)

yeah........ well done love xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

ok i gotta go and do some banking etc for work.....chat to you soon.......give the pigglies some little nose rubs and kisses from me and the girls XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I agree, especially since my webcam is built into my laptop! And where I live you would not want to leave your laptop out in view :)p

Oh dear.. how about a phone camerca? You could prop the phone up, and leave it running, then watch it back later :) My phone will do a goood half an hour on an empty memory card. (not every good quality mind you, youd want all your piggies to be different colours!)
