Gumtree ad, free male guinea pig, approx 1 year, ginger, smooth coat, need rid URGENTLY, placed late yesterday, he is now with me, he is gorgeous, such big dark eyes (he looks like he is wearing eye liner, :)) ) He is a very happy chappy, hasn't shut up since he's been here, very exciteable, been eating so much since he's been here, as far as i can tell he is very healthy, i suspect he is slightly younger than a year going by his size and nails, but he seems healthy, just very hyper active.

Not sure what is going to happen yet, i know of a lady who keeps guinea pig's and i would imagine she would love to have him, but i am still working on persuading the OH to keep him as i am already smitten.

Is it unfair to have him in the same room as our piggies? He is intact so not anywhere near our girlies, but i'm sure he can smell them which is why he is so hyper, is it cruel on him? He is coming to the caravan with us for the weekend.

Will get some pics later.

If he can smell girlies and has been living alone I'm sure he'll be going crazy. He will need a boar friend of his own, being kept near to other pigs is not the same as a companion as you know.

Boar pairs will need more space than girls and ideally if you are going to pair him up, they need to not be kept near girls or the boys might scrap.

Good luck

Sophie

well done for rescuing him, this is why I need this forum, it continually restores my faith in human nature. x

He is such a lovly little boy, god knows why they "needed rid URGENTLY" poor little fella.

He has calmed down alot now he has been fed.

Ohhh what a gorgeous boy! x) x)
How anyone could let him go is beyond me!

What lovely big eyes he has! drool

Oh he is so cute. How sad he was not wanted.I hope you are able to keep him.

Just to confirm to anybody wondering, if we keep him he will be going boar dating at a rescue and they will be kept in a much bigger cage. I know boars can be tricky but i will do my best for this little fella, i just couldn't not get him after seeing the pathetic ad placed, when i went to collect him the lady informed me he has been on his own for a while now but has been with others in the past, but he has been near their other pig's.

He is going to be getting plenty of love, cuddles and attention from us in the mean time.

He's such a beautiful boy! I want him!

Can't believe anyone would give him away!

Aww he is gorgeous, well done on rescuing him!

I got curious about these gumtree ads that I've noticed complaints about on here so went and took a look. I'm shocked at how many GPs are being sold on here and some with rabbits :-(

I hope you get to keep him!

I know Jayne its disgraceful. Hopefully we can combat it in the future. Also i have been looking out for a new travel cage for my piggies and what some people class as a large indoor rabbit and guinea pig cage disgusts me sometimes, new owners trying to set up and keep costs down must be so misguided!

Seems to be the week for Gumtree rehomes on here, glasd you got him, he's gorgeous.

I would normally just send the link to the FB group, report it or ignore it, but with the pathetic ad and needing him gone urgently, i worried for his welfare, he could have been snake food, set free, or killed!

Yep, you definitely did the right thing. Hope the OH lets you keep him. I was lucky with little Tim as the OH had already bonded with him by the time he brought him home.

Oh is little tim doing? I'm surprised how well our little man is doing he hasn't stopped eating :)) Will you be bonding him with another boar? I know a gorgeous little blonde fella, currently going by the name of george :)) x

Ha ha, not sure what to do yet, he is living alongside Buzz and Beanbag at the moment and we will decide what to do over the next few weeks, he hasn't stopped eating either and gets so excited over fresh hay and veggies. Been interracting through the grids and no aggression which is good but obviously we wouldn't bond them as a trio as thats asking for trouble. He seems really happy though.

That is great news! Maybe its just a boy thing, but all my new girls were quiet for days didn't really eat alot and ran aay everytime they saw a sudden movement.

x

It could be, he has settled in a lot quicker than any of my girls did apart from Phoebe skinny pig, 2 seconds on the floor and she was off sniffing everyone and wheeking.

My existing boar (nuetered) who lives with the girls is very laid back to, but then so is toffee (PEG) but i think thats in their nature to be calm.

Well done for rescuing this gorgeous little lad. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do (Keep Him!!) :)) Looking forward to seeing more about him, any ideas on a name?

I liked fudgywudgy like my toffeewoffee, but he is far too manly and hard to carry that off, so were liking george at the minute. He has been causing havoc apparently lol, he has been moved upstairs away from the others and he has trashed his cage and not shut up wheeking lol. Think he has ADHD :))

He is an adorable piggy, and looks young too. It would be lovely if you can keep him, I'm sure he's already feeling much better and being cared for so well.

Bless him. A real sweetie piex)

Aww he's a nice looking boar, I avoid going on gumtree as there are enough pigs in rescues needing homes let alone gumtree. Good luck with him.

A Little update for you all, having done our weekly trip to the caravan with 2 cages instead of one, we have realised its not ideal, as much as we would love it to be, but i have spoken to the lady i mentioned on my 1st post and we are taking him there on Monday evening. She is a vet and as said has many of her own piggies including some lone boars..... having not spoken to her properly i am not sure what her plans are as yet, but she has paired up and bonded boars in the past. So yes sadly, were not keeping him but we still get to see him on a regular basis when we take our piggies to her house for nail trims, m.o.t's and services :))

But he is very happy at the moment, eating for Britain, he has been out on the grass today as its been a nice day he is now sprawled out in his cage sleeping, we have some lovely photos of him which i will upload, he is such a calm cuddly boy if still a little shy, but considering the house he lived in before its not surprising, one thing i forgot to mention (god knows how as i was fuming about it) he was living in a small old fashioned style cat carrier! Really small, needless to say as soon as we were home he went into a proper cage. Anyway that is the news, auntie Chloe and uncle Martyn will miss him terribly, but know he will be so well looked after and happy in his new home, and were pleased to be able to help him out and take him to a new, much happier life potentially with a boar friend in a much bigger hutch than the cat carrier!

xx
