First can I take the oppurtunity to say hello to everyone!

My little girl died on the 3rd September while I was away on holiday :'( my friend who has never ginuea pig sat before (an whom I very much doubt will do it again) found her and rang me to let me know.

I decided that after that there would be no more pets however, within hours of coming home I relised a pet less life was not a good life so off I headed to the pet shop the next day and though I debated with getting a pair my landord has clearly stated, I can keep only one animal in my flat. Anyway I came home with a little boy called Thomas. He's an indoor pig and gets lots and lots of love and attention, he's still quiet but, I am sure that given time he will come out of his shell.

He had his baby check up yesterday at the vets and was given the "all clear" he's in perfect health.

He's a lovely little man :smitten: though not eating much at the minute.

P.s how do I add photos, thanks

Hello and welcome sad to hear about your little piggy passing away whilst you were on your hols :'(

Your new arrival sounds lovely its a shame you cant have 2 piggies to keep each other company but I am sure he is going to get all the attention he needs from you :) Maybe you could pop a little teddy in with him to keep him company, I am sure he will get used to you in no time and be popcorning away ;)

To pop picutres on, go to the gallery and at the top there is how to post a photo, you can use photobucket and there is a little section on there to tell you how to do it. Cant wait to see the pics :)

Have you actually talked to your landlord yet?

Because if you have a cage in there already, it wouldnt matter if there was one or two piggies in there surely?

I mean, its like saying yep you can have a fishtank, but only one fish please... ::) They are enclosed, they arent roaming like cats and dogs, which is probably why he put that clause in the contract?

I would ask him. Most landlords are pretty cool when it comes to caged pets, you just have to put emphasis on the fact that the cage is already needed for a single one, surely it doesnt matter if there is a second in that cage seeing as it wont mean that you will have the whole house full of hutches, they will share the one cage. they wont go around the house chewing the furniture and clawing at the wallpaper either ;)

Welcome to the forum, I'm a newbie too.
Soory to hear about your last pig, but glad you got yourself a new one.
I cant see there being a problem with having 2 as they would be sharing the cage.
Cant wait to see your pics

Thanks for your replies Thomas is sat on my shoulder at the minute squeaking away! I have popped a little stuffed ginuea pig into his cage. The really annoying thing is that I own my own flat but, there is a clause in my lease hold agreement that only fish and caged animals are allowed and aside from fish only one (caged) pet is allowed. The reason why I am so cautious is that its an ex council flat and when I had a hamster and a guinea pig and they found out they went balistic! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: and one guy was kicked out of his flat for having more than one pet.

I could ask permission but, given how long the council take to reply he will probually be too old to put another piggie in with him, they literlly take months to reply!

still, I would try.

When I rescued my Lily she had been alone for over a year, and it then also took a while until I could get her a companion due to personal circumstances.

We introduced a neutered boar to her and they became good friends - even though she was an old lady and he was a very young very randy boy ;)

even if the council take longer to reply, i would try.

Maybe you should also include that according to the RSPCA they should be kept in pairs? and you could maybe include that you will get another piggy of the same sex and have no intention of breeding? (that might be one of their worries)

Firstly let me welcome you to the forum from us in OZ :)
