Senior Guinea Pig
8 of the pigs had their second round of Lice n Easy baths last night. Everything went great, all eight washed, conditioned, combed and dried inside 2 hours. I hit something of a hiccup with little Willamina though, the fifth piggie I washed...I am bruised, scratched and traumatised as a result!
I knew Willa did not like her first Lice n Easy bath last week. She struggled but never jumped. Last night, she lept out of the sink no less than three times - this is with me holding her firmly - and climbed up my front, absolutely soaking wet. At one point she got up to my face and scratched my chest and lip.
I let the shampoo soak in, put her in a plastic box lined with a towel. The sides are about 8 inches high. She cleared that, ran round the bathroom, and then jumped up onto a wicker storage basket, another 8 inches or so high.
So I moved her to the big bath to rinse her...no jumping out of there, right? I was so close to being wrong. Her nose came over the edge each of the three times she jumped. I held her every way I could safely do so, and she still managed to wriggle and hook her back feet on me and launch herself. I let her potter in the bath and she sat looking at me then propelled herself again. Trying to catch her before she landed, landed me with a bruised bone on my elbow.
She got away without having any conditioner, I was not messing about trying to put that on her and then rinse that off. We had more than enough trouble just with the shampoos! I dried her off, no trouble. I walked out of the bathroom holding her in my arms - and she was off again! Climbing up me until she was on my shoulder, more scratches on my chest and face. I had to lay her on her back to stop her wriggling and climbing. She's such a small girl, but she has more strength than most of the big pigs, but her slight frame means she can pull of some serious wriggling and houdini-style maneouvres!
In short, both she and I were left very traumatised by her bath, and I will not be repeating the experience any time soon!
