My new piggie is sneezing a lot and has not been eating a lot I gave her food 4 ago and it still half finished. And she is not drinking. She is acting really latharic. And she has crustyness around her eyes and nose. And it's really scary. Anyone know what's happening to Maggie.

Hi, okay stay calm.

The best advice you will receive is to take Maggie to a vet immediately. The fact she is lethargic is a real concern. Since she is not eating much nor drinking, please start syringe her water but carefully. If she's not eating much then she'll probably need something to get her gut going again and syringe feed.

We're not vets here and only the best diagnosis is from a qualified vet. Whereabouts are you? can you add your location i.e. England or wherever so perhaps we can locate a suitable vet or use the vet locator at the top of the forum.

Please get her to see a Cavy savvy vet as soon as you can. It sounds like she has a urti and will need antibiotics. In the meantime please give her syringe feeds.

Ok thank you guys I don't have to syringe feed things so we will make an appointment.

Can you give her some cucumber and encourage her to eat this, will help getting fluid into her.
Ideally, a first aid box should be on stand by, I keep all sorts including plastic syringes which vets will give you when they have prescribed medicine, alternatively you can purchase them online.
Please don't delay in getting her to a vet, she could be in real pain, pigs rarely cry out in any pain so it's not obvious until it's really very late in the day of their illness.

Many other forum users will urge you to do the same.

If you don't have any syringe feed you can make a warm pellet mash and try feeding that instead to her. It's vital to keep her guts moving with food and liquid.

Hi! Please have her checked by a vet as soon as you can. She sounds like she has got a respiratory infection, which can kill if it is not treated. You can reclaim the vet cost from the shop as the infection has happened at the shop if you present the sales receipt with your vet bill.

Please start syringe feeding asap to keep the guts going. You can get a syringe from a pharmacy and feed mushed up pellets and water in an emergency. Our guide tells you how to prep the syringe and how to feed. Make sure that you do not feed more than 0.2 - 0.3 ml at a time to prevent any food going into the lungs.
Weigh your girl daily at the same time to monitor the food intake. Cheap supermarket scales will do.
