I will not give them up, my Rusty and Lillith are my babies, that option is so out of the question.
I have to take an allergy pill about every 2 days or so and it's very annoying. Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks :)! xx

There's quite a few on here that have allergies ...... i am allergic to hay, but have slowly become used to it (still sneeze etc.. but not as itchy now) i too take tablets when it gets bad.
I'm sure some of the others will make some good suggestions :)
Rusty and Lillith really love you mommy xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Sorry to hear this
What are the allergy pills you are taking? I work in a pharmacy and some are recommended to be taken every day to prevent the allergy symptoms, and they kind of build up in your system so work better.
You can get eye drops for allergies if your eyes are getting sore.
What are the piggies kept on? xx

I am allergic to mine too. I take an antihistamine everyday. It can help to wash your hands after holding them too.

I always mix it up, every time we buy another pack we buy a new one. I think we're using claritin right now.
I am using shavings with paper under(don't worry no piggies get at the paper) and hay on top, but I've order fleece that should be hopefully coming in anytime soon. xx

I think Claritin is one of the ones they recommend to take daily, try taking it daily and see if that helps more.
One thing I would say, if you get hay fever as well try not to dry the fleece (when you get it) outside if the pollen is high as this can collect pollen and make symptoms worse.
xx

I suffer from hayfever for a range of things and have been on antihistamines for 30 years now. With the guinea pigs, I have to take the tablets (supplemented by a spray for peak times) all year round. It is just a matter of habit.

Same, i take one daily just to keep it under control, their hair still brings me out in a rash no matter what though but as long as I'm not sneezing all the while or have runny eyes I can cope with that. Whenever I do anything with the piggies, no matter how slight, I always wash my hands and I think this helps. And I change my clothes or wear old clothes for cleaning out.

I also am allergic to hay and Guinea Pigs, however I find it goes away with time - If it is your eyes which are hurting I would recommend allergy eye drops you can get them from boots, these go straight to the source and alleviates the itchy and runniness (sp?).
Other than that you can go to your Dr and ask for a stronger pill, see if this gets better?
I know its not the same with everyone however I have asthma and hay fever, am allergic to all animals but after a few weeks spending time with one animal my body gets over it! Stick with it and see!

I can't tolerate meadow hay, but am good with the burgess excel stuff, I get asthma and hayfever ")

Alright thank you very much, I'll dry the fleece off in the house!:)

I also suffer with hayfever. I've found my symptoms are much worse if i touch my eyes after handling the pigs so i've started washing my hands after touching them, feeding them, cleaning them out etc and it's made a difference. I also take a twice daily nasal spray, Beconase, which helps a lot!

What eye drops or spray would you recommend? I get so bad sometimes that I go stand in the shower for 15 minutes to ease the itching!

My animal allergies are pretty severe, I find opticrom eye drops work well. I get them on prescription, not sure of they're prescription only or if you can buy them over the counter
