Just been on P@H website and the first thing it says under their guinea pig section is 'Guinea Pigs are cute and cuddly pets, and can be the perfect for younger children'

Really? It says nothing about adult supervision or that they need to have time settling in or they are nervous and you need to gain their trust .....

They are probably afraid that telling the REAL truth about cage cleaning, vet bills and the other costs of owning a guinea pig isn't going to sell their guinea pigs.

I don't like P@H for sooo many reasons and this is one of them. Plus they let hundreds of kids hold what ever animal they fancy every day probably spreading disease :(

Thanks Betsy I forgot to actually bring this up I've seen it say that loads of times and it's only just hit me what they've actually said no that you brought it up
I couldn't see it metaphorically for looking at it

Sometimes it takes another person to realise what it actually says Maddy. Sometimes it not what you say its how you say it.

Pets at home is ONLY a shop and needs to sell goods for its profit and for paying people working there. Pets are goods and shops are often visited with children...
And shops say the truth: piggies are perfect for children because they are delicate pets, don't bite and... will die very soon even for a simple cold.:twist: A cat or a dog takes a long time before dying for the poor cares... Piggies run over the rainbow without even showing their illness... Practical pets indeed! (and if you have luck your piggie will die before summer holidays):gd:

but this is only a marketing idea of course... and it works! because most parents are WEAK and frustrated... they are not able to say NO to their spoiled children...

Sadly that is very true @rome_italy. My 3 have never had what they wanted when they wanted it. If they wanted something they had to save up for it! That way they appreciate the true value of money and that money has to be earned and it is only through hard work that gets you money and the reward afterwards.

Exactly! I work in a pet shop (I know, I'm trying to improve the industry from inside so that's why I'm here) and parents are always like "my kid wants to hold the piggies" and our policy is 100% no and then they get angry at me :)) Try explaining to spoilt kids that animals aren't toys XD

Luckily the store I work at don't stock animals anymore (partly my input thankfully!) but a few stores that I cover at do and kids are a pain in my butt. I really don't like kids :))

great job! Here in Rome I see that some pet chain shop display a cardboard with written "we don't sell pets as a choice" and I notice that they are far more popular among people and vets.
Today I was reminding about how amazing it was when I visited your beautiful country with my two young daughters and it was allowed to handle and stroke pets... well, you will not believe, but I was in queue with the children!!! who had ever seen a ferret here? and in hand! It was a library, an action for introducing/selling ferrets but I remember that the lady did a lot for persuading me to buy that pet, no matter if we were from Rome and it took 3 DAYS by car for the journey. When she realised there was no hope in persuading me, she started the job with my daughter 9years old.
My daughter is now 16 and is still dreaming of that ferret...

I am not sure to have understood... dictionary says: Scouse= people from Liverpool? :))
I might say that a Monkey Jungle is safer than any district in Rome, even the private parking areas where someone years ago stole the petrol pump from my car leaving the screws in perfect order on the dashboard and where someone else stole the four wheels from the car of my neighbour leaving the car on 4 bricks :cen::rant:

Haha yes that's right, just a bit of a joke ;)
