Clipping the guineas' tiny toenails is not my favourite job and I thought I would ring the vet to see how much it would be if they did it.

£10 each pig! :o

Favourite job or not, I will be doing it myself later!

I remember the vet clipped Molly's nails once (and didn't charge for it, maybe because Molly was having her broken toe strapped up at the time?) and it took less than two minutes. So for my five pigs, it wouldn't even be 15 minutes of time! That's an hourly rate of £200!

How much has anyone else been charged?

£10 seems abit much ? I've never asked as i just do them myself, my brother helps hold them to make it easier and there really good don't fiddle at all. :)

just rang my vets and its £8.57 per pig will have to keep nagging the husband to help instead

That's pricey! I should start up a business, would earn more than I do at work ;D ;D

I have 13 piggies currently, £130.... I'll stick to doing them myself ;)

We were charged £25 for them together last time!

Needless to say I did it myself after that, despite hating doing it. Biscuit is really good about it but Gizmo is a wriggler so my fiance wraps him in a towel and I tackle one paw at a time. They get loads of love and banana afterwards though.

bloody hell thats expensive, thank god i can trim my own piggies nails

I do it myself as I dont find it that hard I was nervous the first time just incase I chopped a little too far but it was fine. I try to keep costs down so hubby doesnt moan! :)

I've always done mine since an early age of keeping pigs now i'm glad I do wow thats amazing

The only one we have the occasional trouble is, is with Ton, and extra £4 only, but sometimes it is included with his teeth trim at no extra cost :) The others we have no problem with :)

If you really can't trim them yourselves try asking if one of the nurses can do them, My vet's used to charge around £3 for the nurse to trim nails however I do them myself now.

Thats what I was going to suggest! One of the pigs we have now rehomed used to have dark nails which still scare me so the nurse did them for £4 :)

Once mine have had their's clipped this time they're going on the patio once a week!

Where are you? Surely a rescue or someone nearby could do it for you? Thats outrageous! ;D @ Beks!

:o £10 per guinea. *faints* My vets charge five pound per pig, however, like everyone else I do mine myself. Yet my vets do it for free when my guineas go for their checkups. :)

Vedra at CCT clipped my piggies' nails when I took them to her for a checkup. I've never tried clipping them myself but wuldn't mind trying if I had to - wrapped up with someone else holding the piggie. Scamper has one dark foot with black nails so harder to see the 'quick' I think.

How often do your guineas go for check ups?

a relative of my parter took theirs to a vet, it cost £5.99 and they made 2 of his nails bleed >:(

i cut my boys nails myself, i would do theirs but they live too far away

we used to get fluffs (my bunny) nails cut for free by the rescue. he was REALLY difficult. ill hav to put his pic on here he was sooooo adorable (hes now buried in th garden :'( ) lived till he was 12 though, good boy :smitten:

good greif , no wonder I'm skint , i include free nail clippingwith any pig rescued or bought from me, & have done up to 100 in a weekend when full up !
;D

I didn't actually realise they had to go for check ups :embarassed: I only took Molly when she broke her toe or if I think they've got mites. Best to get them checked over then eh? :)

You could let people know how much a vet would charge and just have a box handy for donations? Just a thought :)

All my animals go for a check up about twice a year, just to make sure there is nothing I should be aware of. Like I took my boar who has dental problems to the vets (by this time the dental problems had not effected him) and they could see that I was going to have problems with his teeth. So they could treat him early before the signs, such as losing weight showed. :)

That is a brilliant idea. O0

the nurse clips claws at our vets and it costs £4.50 per pig, i took 2 of mine in for clipping and she was happy to show me how to do it so now i clip all my pigs and rabbits claws myself it saves alot of money :)

My vet charged £5 for a check up and nail clip. I thought that was very reasonable. I do 3 of mine myself but no way can do Timmy`s because a) he is a nutty pig and always bites me and b) his nails are all black, so a bit scared of doing it ;D

I did WIlson and Cindy's the other night and god was it a struggle ;D
I had a rash of scratches on my hand after that ;D

I have found that i clipped their nails regularly when they were young ans they are alot better now. Plus i ply them with food which stops them wriggling!

i took for my mine to get theres done last week and was £20 but i also got lilly check over aswell
