Now some of you may know and have read that I am a new piggie owner and I have never kept them before, until I got 3 girls back in Oct time, the lady I got them from told me that one of them I had chosen was most definitely pregnant which was correct as a few weeks later I woke up one morning to two cute little baby piggies, I had a male and female baby so I have now separated the male at 3 weeks of age so there will be no mating there, but when I went to feed my 4 girl piggies yesterday morning I saw another baby in the cage, now I am really annoyed and was not at all expecting that and I am learning from my mistakes because either my three older girls are not all girls or the lady I got them from didn't tell me that I may also have another pregnant female, I took her word for it that she had given me 3 girls (As i thought she was very experienced) and I have never seen any mating etc. I thought she would of known better as she has kept guinea pigs for years and she has 24, and I told her that I was new to keeping guinea pigs. So I will now check the one that has not had any babies to see if that is male, if its not a male then that means she was pregnant when I got her off the lady as it was 19th Oct so the date seems to be about right? And that also means if I have 3 females that the third could also be expecting? how annoying when I just wanted three girls and have ended up with more.

Talk about get your moneys worth haha you are handling it very well but always check for yourself despite what other people tell you experience doesn't always equal trust worthy. Are there photos of them all anywhere? Your going to have such a wonderful herd :)

Well I did check all 3 of my piggies and yes they all are definitely girls which means this one which just had a baby must of just been mated just before I went to pick them up, I had no idea it was even pregnant and the lady didn't mention it either she just told me the one was pregnant, now I am learning I will always keep them on pregnancy watch whenever I get new ones from now on.
Now I am just waiting for another week or so to be able to tell whether this little one is a boy or girl, I separated the other baby boy dead on 3 weeks and the lady who sold them to me has him.
My 3rd female would of now gone over the pregnancy dates so I'm sure and clear that she had not been mated.
I have actually found it nicer having more than 3 piggies, they all seem to love it more being around more piggies.
Hope you all have had a great Christmas and have a very Happy New Year x

You certainly got your moneys worth there. I hope it all works out for you and the new baby is a girl so you can keep it.

Thanks every one, the baby is two weeks old now so I am hoping I can tell if its a boy or girl within the next week.

Hello and guess what? my new little baby IS A GIRL, I'm so so happy which means I will be keeping her, we have double checked her over this past week and she will be 3 weeks old in a day or two so I now have a name for her which is... 'Quality'.

So from 3 females that I first got, I now have 5 females, :D they all get on great and I love them all to bits, maybe after I have moved I may get more as I will have a lot more room. These little piggies are very addictive.

The names for all five of my piggies are... April, Sunday, June, Mrs T and Quality. :lol!::D

x

Great that your little surprise baby is a girl! The lady you got your piggies from has probably generously omitted to mention that the sows have been in contact with a boar right to the point where you picked them up. Sadly, your case is by no means unique; it is one of the reasons why most good standard rescues have a mandatory 10 week pregnancy watch for any incoming sows. People can be extremely economical with the truth and vital information if they want to get rid of pets! :(

Single piggies can not show up and the weight gain even in the last week will not be so great as to cause suspicions, so don't blame yourself for not noticing! It's happened to me with my surprise baby Tegan, whose dad turned out to be a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post neutering boar at the rescue getting used to sow company prior to going to his new home - this happened while the sows I was going to rehome later were undergoing their pregnancy watch. The rescue lady was VERY upset; having visited her rescue, I can't see how else it could have happened. It was one of the best appointed small rescues I have ever seen!

Congratulations! Can't wait to hear more about her

Oh that is lucky. It is great you can keep her. I look forward to the pictures.
