Hi everyone! I have at the moment 15 piggies, some I have adopted and some are long term fosters because they have special needs. I have always had a spare cage which I use for short term fosters who are just being assessed before they go to there forever home. However, I have just had two girls come in who are in a bit of a difficult situation. They came from a big rescue in Telford where the lady was hording animals it was a disgusting situation and a bad case of animal cruelty. I have named these two girls Sugar and Spice. Spice is ok but very scared but I have worked with lots of scared piggies so that isn't really to issue. Sugar is the problem, at some point the lady (we think) has dropped her and she has fractured her leg and it has been like this for months so it has fused itself :(. Are wonderful vet x-rayed her and said she has major issues with her leg but we should assess her quality of life. Up to now she is amazing! getting on really well and I have fallen head over heels for them both.

So the problem is that I am worried about getting her a home. i think it will be really difficult. Also I love them to bits and would like to keep them but if I have them occupying my shot-term foster cage I wont be able to do any shot-term fosters any more! I really don't know what to do, keep them or hope that the right forever home comes along who can deal with her poorly leg.

what do you guys think?

thanks! :)

Just so you have an idea of what type of loveliness I am dealing with....

They're gorgeous, can you not purchase another cage for your short team fosters?

Its all about the room really i couldn't fit any more in and I like to make sure they all have lots of room! They are lovely though don't you think? :) x

Could you find a really good home for any of the others that are in a little less need?
Do you know and trust anyone that could take them on the understanding that you get to see them any time?
What a horrible dilema.....@)

You do a brilliant job sarah we all love you very much and i can think of no better place for Sugar and Spice, thats what rescue is all about and believe me they came from a hellish place.Love them and be happy you do so much and long term fostering of this pair is the job for you x Hen

Well, it looks like that's been sorted out :)) .

And yes, they are both simply adorable (which is Sugar and which is Spice?)

Aww thanks Helen! You are so lovely and you really do, do an amazing job! Well that settles that those two cuties are going to stay with me long term so I can give them all the love, cuddles and the life that they deserve! Thank you everyone for your comments! :) xxxxx

oh and the white one is Sugar and the Teddy one is Spice! x)

There are homes for special needs pigs out there, it's just a case of finding someone with the experience, time etc.

I had a piggy who was kicked by a rabbit. (Yeaaaars ago now, Perfect example as to why Rabbits and Piggys should never be put together)

It broke his hip and the vet was going to pin and plate it with a needle (after saying to me, you can buy one for alot cheaper than this operation will be). But his hip had already fused, but it never bothered him and he lived for another 5 years after. Such a friendly little character. It never stopped him popcorning or getting the zoomies. I just made sure he had alot of attention due to his special need and he was in a room where people were constantly there to see him. He died in the end due to a tumour and nothing to do with his poorly leg.

Lucky Sugar and Spice! I'm glad you're keeping them, they deserve someone lovely to look after them.

Ha ha Its a win, win situation! :) Cant wait for food out I'm already hungry!

Amanda- very true! There are some wonderful people out there who have taken on lots of piggies from the PGPR! Its just I have bonded with these two so much! :)

AbbyGuinea- Thats reassuring to hear! I hope she can live a nice long life popcorning in our field in the summer and running around my house in the winter (to the delight of my family when there a shed load of piggies wheeking and running around!). x
