I caught the quick when cutting Peppers nails tonight, only slightly it barely bled but his reaction was rather dramatic. He is already a challenge when it comes to nail cutting it takes two of us but I’m worried now that he is going to put up more a fight now as I have hurt him, I still have a paw to do but we wanted to leave him tonight as he was getting stressed.
many tips for regaining trust and cutting challenging piggies nails welcome! Pringle just sits there with no problems!

Aw poor Pepper... when it came to gaining Clover's trust for nail trims we spent ages playing "give a paw, get a parsley treat". With no nail clippers to start with, she just had to give a paw and shake hands then she got a treat. Then we did one nail at a time. Then one paw at a time. Now if Clover gets a parsley treat for any reason she automatically gives me a paw whether its nail trims or not :)

Please don’t worry.
Last time we did nail trims my wriggler, Phoebe, wriggled so much she ended up with the quick being cut so that it bled copiously.
Trying to get her to stay still while I covered her paw with cornflour and tried to stop the bleeding was a a task in itself.
Was she bothered?
Not a bit - so long as she could stuff herself with dill.

😂😂 he certainly doesn’t seem to traumatised and is still my friend this morning

Wow thats brilliant

I had similar issue yesterday, Archie is such a drama queen and squeals before you touch him lol , resulting in us catching the nail quick.......we just persevered but got worried, 2 mins later nibbling his corn and jumping round like a loon! They recover quick!

Eddie is very dramatic about having his nails clipped. It's a 2 person job and it doesn't help that his nails are super curly too so every time he moves his paw you have to re align the clippers quickly before he moves again! He wiggles and kicks and flinches and squeaks which makes it even harder. It's not at all fun for me or him but in no time at all he seems to forget all about it 😂
I wouldn't worry too much as long as there is food involved, I'm sure Pepper will forgive you quite easily.

ginger doesn't love being picked up in general but shes super curious when shes on the ground so cutting nails has been proven hard for us haha.
and when I cut Lily's nails she gets scared I'm going to try to cut her fur haha.
also was wondering about the whole picking up process would you recommend holding your guinea pigs every day to get them used to it or let them be happy on th ground, on the ground they are quite happy and on my lap they are fine but its just trying to get them out of their indoor cage.

Nope not the only diva at all, I’ve got a porky one too (on the train with him now! 🥳😍) My Luigi’s black back feet quicks are cut frequently as he times his kangaroo hops and back leg mummy kicking for just when I’m chopping! 🙄 Definitely not bothered about it in the slightest either!
Sure Pepper won’t hold a grudge at all :D

You can try and pick them up in a hidey like a cuddle sack, but some pigs just don’t like it! Pepper is fine to be picked up but our other pig Pringle squeals like we are going to eat him! But he loves having lap time and cuddles! Our boys prefer to be in their cage so we only give them floor time once a week where as some pigs love being out and exploring! You just have to find what works for you!

My boys get floor time every day so they learnt very quickly that me holding a fleece tunnel out in front of them means floor time or time to go back and they walk straight in. Both hate being picked up and Elvis especially hates being held so this is the perfect solution for us.
I wouldn't do regular lap time if they don't enjoy it as they will be happier to interact in ways they are comfortable with. If they enjoy it then go for it :)
