My gorgeous boy Freddie passed away in the early hours of this morning. He leaves behind his best friend, Nelson and I don't know what I should do now. Nelson is not neutered and he and Freddie were very close. Nelson was adopted to be paired with Freddie after Ringo died. The pairing worked out far better than I could ever have hoped for.

Should I find another boar? I know boar-bonding is difficult, and I doubt I'll find someone as well suited to him as Freddie. He will be five this year so I don't want to have him neutered. It was a struggle to find a guinea pig rescue in my area when Ringo died.

I'm bringing Nelson in for now, as I don't want him to be alone especially during winter. If I am to pair him, is there a certain time frame I should do it in? I had paired Freddie with Nelson within almost two weeks after Ringo had passed away, but Freddie had been used to Ringo coming and going due to his treatment so I don't know how Nelson will feel to suddenly not have Freddie.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Liane
Sorry for your loss. I lost one of my two girls on Friday and my liquorice is finding it very tough. So quiet and withdrawn. I've been looking at rescue centres and dropped a few a line. None of which could help but my details were passed on to another who may have a girl for me. Try contacting your local centres and ask them if they cannot help do they know any that can. I hope your little piggy gets on ok. I'm on here to look for advise for a grieving piggy x

Hi liane,I am sorry you lost your piggy - you could put him on the wating list for a spayed sow from Tracey at Rugby Rabbit and Guinea Pig rescue (type it into google and her website will come up ) - you may have to wait a while though - My Boar Bumble has two wives from Tracey - it was a long way from me in wiltshire- but worth the journey - if you dont drive someone may be able to help you with a piggy train .

Hi! I am sorry for your loss :( I would suggest that boar dating is not really hard its just about keep trying until you find another guinea that fits. Basically what you are doing is showing him a boar and saying do you like this one? He looks and sniffs does abit of mounting and then may well turn round to you and go no mummy he isnt right! Then you just have to try another. Eventually he will find a best friend its just all about patients. I would say get in touch with your local rescue as soon as you feel comfortable to have another guinea in your life. In terms of spayed sows you could give it ago but it may be a long wait. Hope you find a friend for him soon:) xxxxxxx
