I've been questioning finding my guinea pigs a new home. They haven't been getting much attention recently. I used to cuddle them every day and watch them playing but now it's just, pick them up --> put them in the run/hall way --> back in house 4 times a week. It's not enough, they deserve more attention.
I don't know wether to go through with it though. I don't want to add to the number of 'unwanted animals'. I do want them, I just can't give them what they need anymore. I don't enjoy doing stuff for them. I love them with all my heart but it's not fair on them that they don't have the same quality of life they did. I only see them popcorn when I put more food in, not every 5 minutes for no reason like always did.
Neo's grown up now, so they need a bigger house which I just can't pay for atm.
Should I rehome them? Or not? I want them to be able to run around on grass everyday, new toys and lots of love which I just can't provide now.

Well, have a seriouse think about it, if you cannot give them the attention they need then mabey its for the best, but as you have 2 of them, if you just play with them for an hour aday together then that would be fine but if yoy cannot do that then i think rehoming is for the best.

I have 3 (: boars

Yeah you're right. It's better for them. I'll try sorting something out today & seeing if I can't like.. make some adjustments.

I'm scared that they'll get something from Devon (my puppy), or she'll catch something from them. She has mites which she's getting treatment for, and the guineapigs have Bob Martin spot on stuff but idk if that's where she got them from. They've never met but they used to run around in my room where she sleeps.
I know theres something rabbits carry which pigs can catch. Do dogs carry anything that's harmful to rodents?
They don't get to run around upstairs now, it's just the hallway where she doesn't go or their run.

I honestly dont know about dogs giving/getting anything from piggys, my dog has never got/given anythink to my hamsters/gerbils/rabbit/guinea pig.

As there are three of them thats better, all i can say is, it would obviously be better to keep them if youy can look after them, if you can get them out into the hall for 1-2 hours aday and sit with them, talk and play with them and when you walk past their cage you can say 'hello piggies' or whatever and that should make a difference but/make some toys for them and they should be fine, however if yoy cannot get them out 1-2 hours aday then just stroke them for 10-20 minutes each so they get some time with you, at least they have each other to play with any way.

Hope i have helped :)

It's what you think is best for them. You don't have to spend every minute of the day with them, a few hours exercise and an hour of handling them a day should be sufficient. How big is the hutch you have them in? There are quite a few websites that you can visit that have people given away hutches or selling them for a small price that aren't in bad condition. However, the below makes me feel it is best for you to rehome them:

In the end you will just end up resenting them, if not so already.

Have a serious think about, however, from what you have written I think you have already made you mind up, you just don't want to sound horrid or add to the already large number of rescue guineas or guineas that need rehoming. If this is what you are worried about it would be more horrid for you to keep them when you don't enjoy having them around. Guineas can catch things from dogs and vice versa, however, they should not come into close enough contact or be around each other twenty-four/ seven to pass things on or not come into contact when one of them are ill. Hope this makes sense and helps. No one will think bad of you providing you pick the best option for all those concerned. O0

Thanks both of you. I'm glad you don't think I'm evil or anything. :)
I've just given them some grass and brushed them. I don't know now. I want to keep them, they seemed happy. But then I don't, because I don't feel happy being around them. Gahh, I don't know /: It's made it harder deciding now.

You're right, I'd hate to ruin the lives of 3 other pigs who wouldn't get adopted because mine would have taken their chance to find a forever home.

They live in a just over 4.5x1.5ft hutch (1.5x1.5each), which isn't adequate housing in my opinion.

No they do need quite bit more room then that. What about if you just rehomed one? :)

are you sure you just havent got your pup and then lost interest? What does your mum say about it? Getting rid of an animal because you are bored of it isnt great....if you think they will be better of rehomed, then I'm sure there are people that would love to have them....but cant you just try a bit more first?

Dont want to sounds nasty hun but I think you might regret it if you did rehome them and then maybe you will end up doing the same with other animals and rehoming them too...when you buy an animal you are supposed to keep it for life you know? I think you should just give it a while longer, try and bond with them again and then see how you feel...dont rush into anything!

I'd been considering rehoming them a couple weeks before I found out about her. I've been preping myself for a dog since christmas aswell, so it's not that it's a big shock with a new addition. She doesn't take up much time/energy right now, & I've always kept all my pets 'till the days they passed away.
Yeah, I'll be giving them extra attention. If I'm still unsure on Monday then I'll buy some grids and make their new house before Wednesday if all goes well.

Awww bless you, I'm sure you know whats best for them, dont feel guilted into keeping them, but just make sure you dont make a decision you may regret ;) :)

I would go for rehoming one then see how you feel in a few months time. Do not feel bad about rehoming many people have to and have no choice. Take your time and you will work out what you want and need. The choice has to be down to you in the end do not let anyones comments make you think you have got to keep them. If you were my daughter I would be proud of you if not an easy thing to decide or admit :)

I've decided to keep them. :)
I was asking all my friends yesterday what they thought, and the responce was the same. I don't want to regret giving them up.
Thank you all :) x
I've just won screwfix mesh grids off eBay for £10, £9 delivery. I'll buy the base and make it as soon as it arrives.

What injections are available for guinea pigs, and what other products should I be using?

I think you have made the right decision. What do you mean about injections? :)

The only time piggies need injections in when they are ill or have mites. If you ever need someone to check them over I am only a tram ride away as is Ali loves piggies (my daughter) she could meet up with you maybe in town :) I know you chat on msn to her she is away at the moment.
