Well, that was an experience... I felt so sorry for my poor little Gladys ... The vet says she believes it is ringworm, she has given me Mycozole spray and took some samples for a culture.. That was the worse thing to see as she pulled hair out of Gladys and she squealed :(
then a bill of £115... which is a lot but I want whats right for Gladys to get better.. x

Vet visits are not always pleasant.

Please have a good read through this link here, as ringworm is the most contagious thing that you come across with guinea pigs; it affects all mammals, including humans and other pets. if you have got just two guinea pigs, you can leave them together, but you need to give the companion antifungal baths to prevent ringworm from breaking out. It is very likely already infected from shed spores.

Hair pulling needs to be done unfortunately to test for fungal. Usually it comes out easily if fungal is present.

Is the vet intending on any other treatment if Ringworm is confirmed? A spray is not really the most effective method of treating it, as per the guide.

For info am just posting a link to the original thread so everything can be kept together.

The vet said to carry on with the spray if they confirmed it was ringworm, have to wait for 6 or 7 days for the culture.

That worries me as you are not treating the whole pig, could you ask your vet about Imaverol instead? Did they say to spray all over or just the ear?

she said just to spray the affected area and to keep it away from her eyes.. I thought about spraying her all over though..

Oh dear.. I never had the pleasure of meeting Erika.. *cough* I don't think I want to either!

I would spray all over or use Imaverol too. I can give you the link to buy online.

I gave them both a dose earlier, with a cotton wool pad but maybe tomorrow i will just spray over them ( avoiding their eyes ). I have also removed their tubes and their wooden house - feel a bit mean but i have replaced the house with just a cardboard one for now - i will buy new tubes tomorrow, didn't want to pay Pets @ Home prices ! Bet they wonder what is happening as I also removed their hay from their house and popped it all in a new corner little tray ! I was having wee / fleece issues... What a day ! x

You can get the cardboard tubes from ASDA for £1, my Mum gets them for me from the Hyson Green one.
