I have a single 9 month old female and I use carefresh bedding in a corner of her fleece cage, which is the only corner she pees in. Usually when I clean it it is gross and wet with pee, but today there wasn't much. There was only a little wet spot. I did use a bit more bedding than usual today. I might be being paranoid but I don't know. She's eating and drinking regularly. Is there any way to stimulate her to pee? An urgent vet visit? (She didn't pee any where else than that one little spot)

Give her some cucumber or wet her veggies. Nature should take it's course. Piggies will wee anywhere so please check all other areas.

You can if you are really worried give her some wet food and pop her in a clean bowl and wait for her to wee. Piggies can take a while to wee however and if stressed it could take a little longer with them sitting in a bowl. I really would imagine she has wee'd and you have missed it... Is she showing any signs of pain sitting hunched up and not moving?

Before I noticed she hadn't peed I'd given her some extra lettuce just because she loves it. I gave her some more during lap time, hoping she'd do it later because of the water content (like the cucumber). And no, she's been eating/drinking normally and being just as crazy and active as usual. I don't really like the idea of putting her in a bowl and watching till she wees but if it comes to that I will try. It might be a false alarm, like she just didn't pee for a while, but it could be serious. I'm just a paranoid person. Thanks so much for your reply!

I honestly think if she'd got a blockage she'd be in pain and distress. Watch her like a hawk in the cage and keep checking where she has sat, hopefully you'll see wee soon, keep a good eye out

I only ever find my boys' pee spots when I'm giving them a full clean out. I was using Back2nature rather than Carefresh but the pee covered bedding always was at the bottom of the pile, never the top (it did that naturally somehow, and they did have a fairly thick layer of the stuff). Is it possible the pee is there, just further down the layer rather than sitting at the top?

Normally I put my pigs back at lap time because I feel I'm pushing my luck and any longer and they'll wee on me. How about putting on some old clothes and cuddling until you get wet if the bowl doesn't appeal?

Hi! If your piggy is still eating and drinking normally, then there is no blockage; that is extremely painful as anybody unable to pee can tell you. With that kind of level of discomfort, you would see a guinea pig go off its food and drink soon and indeed deteriorate very quickly - you'd be left in no doubt about having to rush it to the vets as a life and death emergency.

It is most likely that your thicker bedding has just absorbed a lot more; it is quite efficient these days. As long as she is fine and normal in herself, there is nothing you need to do.

Take a deep breath! :tu:

Good news! Woke up today and she was already wheeking like crazy. Gave her some hay and I saw that there was a little wet spot in the bedding. I think maybe the reason she didn't pee was because she was a bit dehydrated? The level of water in her bowl (she was always reluctant to drink out of a bottle) was not changing much. I think giving her lettuce and some cucumber helped a lot. Glad we didn't have to try the bowl idea, as that would have stressed her out a bit. I guess I was just being a bit paranoid. Thanks so much for all of your help!

Do you use plastic or glass water bottles, out of interest?
