When I went out last night to put the boys to bed I noticed that Smudge's water bottle was completely empty. I'd fed them earlier in the evening and always check their water, but I'm questionning myself and wondering if I did check the water bottles earlier because surely I'd have noticed that it was low and topped it up (we use the bottle snugs so it wouldn't have been immediately obvious that it was empty).

I feel so ashamed that I may have overlooked something like this and that I've got no idea how long he was without water for, although I know for sure that he had water in the morning so it wouldn't have been for more than a few hours. Even so though, such a basic welfare requirement that I missed mallethead

Dont be so hard on yourself, if they have veg and salad they get water and moisture from them. Its a simple mistake made. And I'm 99% sure they were absolutely fine, I've done it once before and felt terrible. But it is just a simple accident xx

Don't beat yourself up too much. I came home the other afternoon from work and spotted a full pellet dish on top of one of the pens so three of my ladies had gone hours without :... Usually very organised and methodical but my OH was helping and we both thought the other had done it mallethead
Sure Smudge has forgiven you ;)

Yes, he forgave me pretty quickly after chin rubs and a sprig of parsley - a winner every time!

Allan was off work yesterday and he gave them 2 handfulls of grass each (as well as their usual amount of veg), so he'd have got plenty of moisture from that.

He's absolutely fine so no harm done, I'm just glad it wasn't a warm day when he would have needed plenty of water.

Aww, don't feel bad. It was just an over sight and no harm done. There's not a problem with the bottle is there? Occasionally Hamish & Dougals bottle empties itself quite quickly and wets the bottom of the cage. I think it does it if the angle is not quite right. Just a thought. :)
