sorry i didnt know where to put this thread, i put an extention on my cage a few days ago so it is now 2x4 and at the top it is 2x2 (c&c cage) they dont seem to use the top floor though, so i put all of there food and water and hay up there but now i am scared that they wont eat
 
Hi Zoe, how steep is the ramp? and have what is it made from?

I find if they are too narrow or steep they dont want to go up. Covering it if its not already with a fleece or towel, use clothes pegs or something to secure often helps.

I have heard of people using tunnnels on ramps to encourage pigggies to go up too.

Good luck :) I hope they get used to it. It often takes a while for them to get used to new things, my new herd of five have only used began to use up stairs of their double tier hutch after two weeks! rolleyes so persevere :)
 
it isnt steep and it has carpet on so i will maybe try to do the tunnel thing thanks
 
Mine all find it really easy to use their ramps. It just took them a few days. I'd put them at the top where the food is, so they learn the food is there, and let them make their own way downstairs again, and hopefully that'll teach them to go upstairs. :)
 
I put a trail of pellets going up the ramp. Spikey was so busy gobbling the pellets that she was at the top of the ramp before she knew it.

If they are still not going up you need to either put them up to the food or put the food at the bottom and coax them up as they need their food and water, they might not realise its up there yet :))
 
piggies are fussy about ramps - I have a couple who don't do upstairs, regardless of years of experimenting with ramp / tunnel / step combinations.

Most gradually get used to them - with some creativity and plenty of bribes
