So it all happen so fast. I was putting my guinney pig hecotor outside in the run and as I did this he jumped out my mand and fell 30cm down. When he ran away he made 1 loud noise and then dragged himself to his house using his 2 front legs. I knew it was bad so called my dad and we were with a vet in under 5 minutes. She did some physical tests on him and said that it was not good. She said that there was a sim chance and if she was me she would put poor hector down. I could not believe it. It was all my fault I could of stopped it from happening. About two months ago my other guinney pig was put dow because he was very ill and I just feel so bad, giltey and upset. Any other experiences or support would be very much welcomed. Thank you

HUGS

What an awful thing to happen to you! Sadly, these freak accidents happen as piggies have a habit of jumping. 8...

PS: One little trick - always put a piggy with its bum end first into a run, cage and hutch or use a pickup container like an upturned house or a tunnel; that prevents most of the freak jumps.

If it is any consolation to you I have had the odd piggy jump out of my arms over the years; thankfully, none was ever badly injured but the incidents have always left me shaken!

Wishing your poor little piggy all the best.

It sounds like a spine injury rather than a broken leg.

Thanks

Thank you for all of your messages but I decided to put him down. It is the best option as he was in lots of pain.

Oh no - how awful for you.
Have to agree with Wiebke about placing them rear end first into their pen etc. I always cover their eyes as well as it seems to keep them calmer when moving them.
So sorry for your boy - free from pain at The Bridge x>>

I feel for you and under stand completely how you feel. One day I opened the cage door to give my dear Charlie some hay. He was up against the mesh and fell to his death. 8... I still think about it and cry.

You are not alone ts a horrible thing to happen to you.

so sorry to hear about your piggie :( you did the right thing by taking the vet's advice.

don't feel guilty... my pig actually managed to jump out of my hands as i was putting him back into his cage today. thankfully we were already on the floor so he only fell a few inches, but it could happen to anyone. seems they like to jump. :/

huge hugs to you, please don't be hard on yourself, its easy enough to do. Bumble once jumped out of my hands and landed face first on the patio there was blood everywhere, she was very lucky not to be seriously hurt but it scared the living daylights out of me

Awwww dont feel guilty it is very difficult!
I had a simular experience except my girl knocked her twofront teeth out.
I cried and felt sick!
Called out emergency vet she was ok but i was terrified!

to be honest these things happen tho you cant change it and you have done your best for your piggies

minty is a jumper, flash was too and fudge is a right fidget who can get into a right strop when transporting from pen to run (if not in a carrier). I am really careful when moving them but accidents happen and could still happen with my wriggly lot. Imagine the scene only weds with fudge in my hands held against my chest, she gets into one of her strops just as I was halfway across the lawn, lots of her flailing her front legs, trying to bite me, lots of screaming and I dont know how I held onto her, but just about did, secured her against me and she shut up again - she will one day get it wrong and I will either get bitten or drop her, and its not because I dont know how to handle her, its because she insists on wriggling.

Dont beat yourself up, lots of hugs
