I just picked up my single pig Cali from the rescue she was boarded at. The lady said Cali was acting depressed the whole time! She stayed in her hidey and rarely came out. She would eat, and the lady said she definitely isn't sick! I said she never acts like this at home, and she thought Cali needed a friend. How can I get Cali happy again?

It could be the strange setting had her a little spooked and so she acted strange- or it could be she feels ill and if worried or her poos/ appetite etc change see a vet.

Is Cali a lone piggy then? If so then looking at getting a companion isn't a bad idea. I had Mo alone and recently - last saturday- got him a younger boar to bond with and I don't think I've seen him happier (you can view my thread 1 to 2 if you wanna see how it panned out). I'm not saying you're a bad piggy mummy or saying GET A FRIEND RIGHT NOW but it is something to think about. No matter how much we love them another piggy to talk to and snuggle with is the best thing they could ask for. :) I hope Cali feels better once home and is having snuggles with you again

I'm sure she'll be better when we get home. I'm considering getting her a friend and probably will.

My girl pig Jess went with her cage mate Rupert to the vets on Thursday for company.

Went to pick the pair up about 6hrs later and the vet nurse said how funny she'd been.
I laughed and said 'sorry she likes to lick and gets a bit in your face!' and she said she'd spent the whole time hiding under the blanket in the carrier and wouldn't go near them!

She's an incredibly confident little lady but obv vet smells had freaked her out!

Definitely agree with a piggy friend x

We just arrived home. Cali was very excited to be back home! She's definitely not depressed! She's mad at me though, because I realized we don't have veggies! My boyfriend just got home with a bag full of them! She's munching away now.

If you can, please consider a companion for Cali. If you cannot get to a rescue, another single piggy as a next door live-alongside mate for mutual stimulation can work.

Please weigh her and if necessary have her vet checked, in case the stress of the boarding has triggered some underlying issues.
