It is pay day on wednesday and i have run out of veg! Well i have Savoy cabbage and carrots, hay and excel piggy food but i am feeling sooo guilty...

The pigs are wondering where their celery and daily hand feeding of spinach is! I am purposely trying not to make carrier bag noises so as not to get thier hopes up :(
They really are not massively keen on cabbage but are getting more hay as a result of not as much veg... I am living on bread and water at the moment as well!
I'm going to pick them some grass tomorrow...

Thank god payday is coming and everything will be back to normal again!

Is there anyone else who cant wait until pay day?

I know the feeling, but I think they'll manage on savoy and carrots - don't feel guilty! (easier said than done though). I've been buying big sacks of 'horse' carrots for mine, they're about £2 for a huge sack. I usually pick grass for them if I've nothing else but it's snowing here at the mo and there's no goodness in the grass this time of year.

Roll on Wednesday!

My grass seems ok (its growing wild and untamed at the moment ")) and the buns are chompnig through it as well but they like carrots and cabbage so they are fine!

Where do you get horse carrots from? And how long do they keep? I'm going to have to get a outside storage box to keep there veg in over the winter!

They sell net sacks of horse carrots and apples at my feed supplies place (which is horsey), they also sell them in laybys here along with other veg. Sometimes greengrocers sell them too. Worth a try!

They usually keep well if stored somewhere cool and dry, but with 40 pigs it's not usually an issue because they eat them pretty quick!

i KNOW that feeling, but i buy the pigs food instead of me! lol! i think i can survive on beans on toast for a week or two! lol!

its so tight at the moment, credit crunch and xmas! lol

The pigs wont mind, they got hay and and pellets, and some carrot, I'm sure they will live without come more greenage for a couple of days!

xx

Cheers guys... I have spent the last of my cash the past week on veg for them and the buns! I have been making all sorts of concotions lately for my own dinners...:{

Anyone had sardines and spaghetti for dinner? I dont reccommend it...:)>>> and i have no idea why i did it either... MY stomach has gone into starvation overdrive!

If you've got any left over veg that you know the piggies won't eat (and no, I DON'T mean taking it out of their cage), could you make yourself some veggie soup, adding lentils and stuff which will bulk it out but not cost much - and will fill you up.

Yep been on lentils cabbage and potatoe soup since thursday now. :)) got smart price noodles for 7p a packet for lunch and porridge and milk for breakfast...

Blimey how on earth did i think i could cope for this long!

I used to get a lot of my veg free from my local veg shop when I was doing my rescue. They just throw it away so it might be worth asking them if they have any leafs ect...

Sometimes we have not a huge range of vegatables and fruit in and i do feel quilty that i can't give them what they are hoping to get and have to just eat what i give them.
If i am really stuck, i'll pick them some grass even if it's wet but it's really better than nothing and if i don't give them anything and they just have their dried food they'd just go mad

Thansk for the info guys... This hasnt happened before as they have always had enough to eat its just been a REALLY lean month. btu next month my mortgage goes down by £150 so thats why I'm waiting for pay day!

More money...woohoo i never thought it in this climate but hey... miracles happen! I'm so glad though as it will let me help out with helping more piggies which i will post about tomorrow...

Dont feel guilty, i know its easier said than done but I'm sure we all struggle a bit just before pay day, i know i do lol.
I'm sure your piggies wont mind a bit of difference in their diet for a couple of day's.
Take care

you poor thing, i know what it's like to be hard up and i had years of it when i was married to my first husband who refused to work so i was left to make ends meet...i even went to my local market and used to go round all the stalls picking up the fruit and veg that had dropped onto the floor, some of it was manky but it made some soup! how sad is that? its not like that for me any more thank goodness, but i have lots of sympathy for those going through it. hope its all picked up for you now x:)

i really struggle to make ends meet with my wages sometimes, working in a supermarket, you dont get a lot. But i always ask at all the supermarkets and greengrocers if they have any veggie scraps that they want to bin, so i can have it for my five beloved piggies. I stock up on pasta, rice and tins when on offer, so when it's really tight, i can still make me and my oh meals, then we can still spend on the piggies, they come first. If you get the cheap own brand soups, they tend to be watery so you can add veggies or meat, whatever you like, and homemade bread, cheap and filling. we do this at least once a week, but with cheap own brand sainsburys part baked bagets! they're soooo cheap!
