We have this cage and you will have tons of room in it for her and plenty for you to get her a friend :x What you will need to do is put sides and carpet on the ramp as she won't use it as there is quite a big drop from the ramp. Hubby and i put some simple thin plywood down the sides and a bit of old carpet on the ramp which meant our fatties could use it and feel secure. some people have also used correx too for the sides. saw a thread on here about the ramp. some people also fixed a fleece tunnel to theirs or even drainpipe. will try to find the link x

I might try and convince mum to let me get her a cage mate, but I'd like to adopt from a rescue this time if I can as I feel bad for unloved piggies. Only I'm not sure I'm experienced to nurture piggies that might have difficulty settling in and don't think there are any rescue centres near me.

Thank you for those tips, they're brilliant, I'll make sure I can find something to make the ramps nicer for her.
 
there are lots of rescues around the country and often people on here would help with piggie trains etc if you want. girls are easier to pair up than boys I think you would be fine you will love watching them interact with each other. :) hope you get the cage soon can't find the thread about the ramps sorry!

That's okay, the tips were fine, I'll see if we've got any old flannels or something I can cut up, they'd be nice and soft and I can make them damp in the summer so she can sit there to keep cool. :D

Closer to the time of looking to adopt I'll have to post in rescue and rehoming, see if someone can help me, the biggest problem I think is definitely the fact none of my family has access to a car and my boyfriend doesn't drive either. lol

lol Not quite so much of a zoo in my new flat, only 5 piggies, a hamster and a chameleon.

My old flat however - there was the above, plus a rabbit, fish, newts, tortoises, a snake, terrapins, you name it! lol

Yay for piggy friends! If you can find a rescue that does dating, I hugely recommend that, so your piggy can pick a friend that suits their desires x)

And my flatmate took all the other pets :)

I've posted in the rehoming section to see if anyone can help me find one. I've never heard of the dating services before joining this forum, it sounds like a brilliant idea, I wouldn't have to worry about them just fighting when I put them together!

Hi, had you thought of buying a dog crate and adding shelves into it? This would be a lot cheaper than the cage you showed us so you could get it sooner. You can get them off ebay. I'm not sure how the sizes will fit nto the space you have but it may be worth looking into?

I bought a childs indoor ball pool as an indoor run for them to play in, I put a plastic sheet at the bottom and put towels on top, they seemd to like it!

I don't trust myself to do something like that, I'm not particularly handy with anything bigger than paper. lol (I'm a crafter but I'm terrible at DIY and things.)

The indoor ball pool is a good idea actually, I may check out prices tomorrow. But I found a nice playpen quite cheap for indoor and outdoor use, with a shade for when it's sunny, so might be getting that.
 
Hi there, I have not read all this thread so forgive me if I suggest something someone else already have. I hate reading. I have just bought C&C cages and think they are great. You can design them the shape you want. You can buy cable ties and tie them all together easy even I done it. mallethead I used mine for a run for the first time yesterday and thought it was the best thing ever. I can just pick it up and it folds up flat with the cable ties on them.

I have never thought of putting a guinea pig in a ball. Can I ask if pets at home suggested this cos this would be so wrong! and they ofen give out wrong information.

I considered C&C but I don't think it's for me, I need something really easy to clean and I want to be more experienced looking after piggies before I build my own cage. :<>

They didn't suggest it in the store but a girl I know that works there told me it should be fine. So glad I don't know her well enough to feel obliged to talk to her any more. pow-pow
 
If you can, if you have a dresser, you could clear off everything on it and put a larger cage on top that takes up all the room. (It's what I had to do, but my dresser is 4 feet wide so I had enough room for the cage.)

Yeah, I don't have a dresser. :(

Most of my make-up/jewellery stuff is on top of a TV trolley I have stacked with craft supplies, art supplies and writing supplies (I study and craft a lot), it's not very big at all. XD

I know, it's just adorable! But my bf's just like that, he didn't grow up with pets so he's not really sure how to act around them I don't think. I know he likes her though, I've caught him giving her little tickles when he thinks I'm not looking and talking to her sweetly when he thinks I can't hear him. lmao Let's face it, being cute and cuddly with a guinea-pig doesn't give off much of a masculine appearance and he does like to feel manly. XD

Haha! That is so true. My boyfriend isn't particularly into small furries. He's more of a bird man to be honest! But I have caught him cuddling my piggies - he has a massive soft spot for our herd's boss - Munchie. When he comes over in a couple of weeks he has SIX new pigs (we don't get to see each other often, so in the time since he was last here there's been rather a large herd expansion project going on here) to say hello to... I'm sure I'll convert him into a piggy lover sooner or later!

I'm glad you've got the go ahead for another piggy and that cage looks fab! Plenty of space! :D

Just to go back to the C&C bit about not building your own cage - it works out about a 3rd of the price you pay for normal cages and there are threads on here with hints, tips and ideas.

Also with a C&C cage you can order bits online and get them delivered to your door, no needing to drive etc.

If you go to the 'Housing' area on the forum there are SO many links to C&C there it's unreal. You can build it as tall or as wide or whatever to the size of your room.

Check it out, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. PLUS - Correx is SO easy to clean and wipe clean.

The man problem I have with C&C is that I would have to put it directly on the floor. I simply don't have anything I could put it on and I don't want to do that for two reasons. One being that it would make it very difficult for me to clean both the cage and my room and two being that I really don't trust my cats with something like this. They'll climb all over it, put their paws in and even if it's strong, I doubt it could take the weight of Monty... (He's a heavy lump.) And he will flop against things with every gram of his weight... :))
 
I'm getting really confused now... If I got C&C I could use it for the run too, and I could just keep adding as and when I earn more... T_T Dunno what to do nooooooow...

I'm going to sing the praises of C&C! They're brilliant, you don't have to leave it open topped, you can make a lid out of the grids too. It can be as strong as you want it to be, the more cable ties you add, the stronger it will be. You can do any shape you want, which is fab when you are pushed for space, and as you say you can add to it, as and when. Also if you get bored, you can change it and make a different shape. And, it's soooooo easy to build, and it's good fun lol xox

Mum won't let me, she thinks it's not safe enough around the cats. I also looked at the cost of Coroplast or whatever it's called. SO EXPENSIVE! :o
 
coroplast is like the signs they use for advertising.............you could speak to your local real estate agent and ask if they have some........it will need a dam good clean down perhaps.......but hey you might have enough for a couple of alterations at any time that way :)
Over here in OZ many people use it too, it's also good for multi tiered c&c or whatever you can do.........it protects and easy to clean :)

She really doesn't like the idea because of the cats. I can always look into it in a few years when I move out but at home I think it'll probably be best to stay off the warpath and stick to the bigger cage.

I have a "boyfriend" (he is 62 and I am 57) that I have to toss out once in a while, but he is one who loves animals; he will sing to the dogs and baby talk the cats. He hasn't seen the guinea pig yet.

If you have the go-ahead, and you can build upward, that is the direction I would go. I would also go over to the housing section for information, which is exactly what I am going to do shortly. I took a quick look already and have been very educated on guinea pig habitation.
 
My two boars run around my sons bedroom I have a sign which goes on the door warning the family they are out and I lay out tubes etc for them. I hoover up their poos but you might beable to train your little one if you put a litter tray with some of her soiled sawdust or bedding whatever you use which might help her to associate that area with wees etc. They love it and get max room give it a go when you are watching tv block off any dangers and let them run! Its funny to watch them, you will find you will turn the tv off I expect.

I let her run around the lving room floor in the evenings, while I'm watching out for cats. XD
