Hello all,
I went to my most dreaded petshop today and spotted a roan piggy sow in there,i spoke to the shop manager about roan to roan or dalmation roan causing lethal babies,she actually listened to me and was quite shocked at finding out about it,right then and there she wrote up a sign and put it on the piggies cage about Lethal babies and what breeds can produce them and assured me that the piggy will not be bred with any roans or dalmations,i couldnt guarantee that they wont breed with it but at least thats alot more people that will be informed about it;)
I also spotted a rabbit on the bottom of an avery which had lots of cockatiels in it,the manager informed me that the rabbit was pregnant so they put her in there away from the other buns,i tried telling her about sicknesses from being housed with birds but as she knows i have never had a bun she didnt think i knew enough to trust me so i lost that battle but still very happy that there may be a few less lethals in the world now:)and "no" i dont think its silly making a thread about it as i have been struggling to get them to do the right things with piggies for a year now so its a good breakthrough;)

Congratulations on a small breakthrough; perhaps she'll start listening on more points, but I wouldn't put money on it.... these people rarely do!

But anyway - it must have given you some satisfaction!

yes she has never listened to much so i doubt she will again i think the only reason she did is because she doesnt want stock that could be deformed or sickrolleyes.
the next issue i will be tackling is the lack of hideys,and that i have a feeling they are breeding on the premises,why else would they have a pregnant bun,piggy and 3 pregnant micegrrrr
she told me that they had some wave of illneess over the last few weeks and lost over fifty pigs8....
damn petshopsmallethead
 
Well done !! :) once I took a bag of clearly mouldy + musty hay back and she kept saying 'nuffin wrong with it!' Then the old man came out and practically yelled it at me:{ rolleyes sorry for that little rambling:))
 
On the other side - when I popped into our local p@h shop yesterday, they even had a frozen waterbottle in their piggy enclosure for the single pigy in there! :)):)):))

Thumbs up! Whoever runs that shop is listening to the affiliated rescue! :))

thats fantastic:(|),its good to see some places care,I'm yet to see one in my town that even provides basic care,over here all petshops i have been into seem to house on cedar woodchips or sawdust,no hay,dirty water,overcrowded/small cages/houses with rabbits,doesnt treat them when sick,no hideys,up to 8 males in one cage so they are usually injured or have sores and most feed them bird seedmallethead

It must make you so frustrated - but I shudder to think how much suffering went into making the canges in this country; and how much is still going on!

yes it does thats why over time i seem to bring half of them home with me until i really thought about it and said "no" to petshops,the problem is people think I'm just some crazy guinea pig lady because i speak up for them,when i went and got ivomec for my piggies everyone in the shop laughed at me and then asked if i was seriousrolleyes
 
Yes, I know; it's better, but you're still being thought a bit crazy being into somehting like guinea pigs....
 
Someone came to sell some electricity to my mum and they walked past my room and went what is in those cages and my mum went guinea pigs........shes obsesed!
 
Better than being self obsessed right? It's making a difference to the life of another creature and that's a wonderful thing to be able to do I think.

Glad the pet shop listened about the breeding.
 
The problem is that those people will only listen to what could hurt their immediate income. They'll never get the idea that better welfare makes better business sense as well - that would require thinking too far past making a quick buck. :{:{:{

Shame isn't it that their animals are stock rather than living creatures with feelings. I quite agree that they don't think twice.

Perhaps you could refer them to RU and then they'll know that housing buns with birds (i mean how dumb is that mallethead) will do more harm to the poor pregnant girlie :(
