I've just noticed a lump on my pig's belly. It's just under her nipple, to the side of her bum. It's quite noticeable and pretty solid. She doesn't seem to be in any pain and is eating and drinking as normal. I'm at work 9-7 tomorrow so will take her to the vet on Friday. Does anyone have any idea what it could be and will I be ok to wait til Friday or should I take her to the vet tomorrow?
Thanks in advance x

Hi! I would think that Friday will be soon enough unless you notice a sudden change.

It is very difficult to give you any kind of diagnosis with lumps; there are many different varieties and any lumps need to be seen and assessed by a good vet. Lumps are quite common in older piggies; thankfully the vast majority is benign - I hope that that is the case with your piggy, too! You are already doing the correct thing.

I have a piggy with a solid lump in exactly the same place. My vet suggested we leave it alone unless it gets bigger. If it's solid, I think an abscess can be ruled out (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I've found that the older piggies get, they can get small fatty lumps that are nothing to worry about. I'd be interested to know how you get on at the vets.

Our oldest girl hs always been prone to lumps - she also has one around her nipple, which has got a bit bigger, but our vet has it tested twice (using a needle to get a sample), and there has been so sign of any cancerous cells, just fatty stuff. We didn't want to put her through an op unless it was really necessary, so for now, we're just keeping an eye on the lump, and later on in the year, we'll take her back to the vet for another check-up.
It's good that you're taking your piggie to get her lump checked out - hope it will all be okay.

It can be benign, it can be malignant. I would have a vet check it out.

It can also be caused by hormonal changes due to ovarian cysts in sows. One of my piggies had one like that. It goes away as soon as the cysts are removed.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll let you know how we get on tomorrow

Just a little update. Took pickle in this morning, they initially thought it was either an abcess or mammary tumour so wanted to take a sample to look under the microscope. When they put the needle in, it was only blood they drew up so said she either has a bleed or a tumour and they took her in straightaway to operate. Still waiting to hear, just praying she's ok!

Oh no, poor pickle. Am sending lots of positive thoughts to you and hope everything works out ok.

Let us know what happens

Oh no! Poor Pickle! I hope that all goes well!

Got my baby back now. The mass was attached to her teat so they had to remove it and they're sending it for tests. Got her in her own little box away from the other two and she seems ok. Still wolfing the food :-)

What great news :) hope she makes a speedy recovery.
