i really do need to stop looking on the local classified sites. i have just seen one advert selling male piggies but it states they must be kept with their mom for at least 4 weeks.
then another advert is asking for free pregnant rabbits and guinea pigs. these adverts make my blood boil grrrrgrrrr

As you said you need to stop looking. It will never ever stop and nothing can be done about it.

Theres not much that can be done unfortunatly :(
All we can do is advise and it is there choice on whether to take it or not, but i've advised a few people and it hasn't effected them enough to change their minds.

i've tried politely explaining a few things to people in the past and they either ignore what is said or hurl abuse at you. they cannot seem to understand that you are simply concerned for the welfare of animals. the trouble is when you are looking for other items you do tend to come across these type of adverts. and me being me - i haven't got the will power to avoid looking

In the past i have had a pair of guinea's "free to collector" they were beautiful and as is often the case the children took no notice of them and they were only 6 months old. I do think when parents buy a pet it is really their duty to look after it not the childs.

I need to too! Something that really annoyed me today, I stopped into my local favorite pet store, and my favorite clerk told me about how she was trying to talk a woman out of buying her guinea pig a ball. Like the ones you get for a hamster only 5 times the size. She wouldn't listen to the clerk and insisted that she has had her in one before and they are all just fine. According to clerk guinea pigs spines do not bend backwards like hamsters and gerbils and it can cause some serious damage. My favorite clerk was telling me of the lady who insisted on putting a baby bunny in a hamster cage (small hamster cage) that would be over 15 pounds once full grown. People irk me!

well said. the parent should be responsible enough to know that the child is going to get bored with the animals. The dogs I begged for at age 12 still lives with my parents to this day. I tried to take her with me when I moved out but they wouldn't have it. It was their dog, not mine even though she was my birthday present. i am 27 now, she a old dog.

i saw a ball for guinea pigs for sale on the same site as the animals. i was quite shocked actually. i did not know that made exercise balls for guinea pigs - i certainly wouldn't buy one. they look extremely cruel to me:(

I am not sure how accurate the clerk is about there spines, but if you have to support their bums I can only imagine. Its not like they will get lost in a clean area of the house like a hamster will. I was going to get Breanna a bunny, until I talked to this clerk and she told me all about her guinea pigs and how they would be a much better match. Then I seen a picture of Max on craigslist, in a rubbermaid tote with cedar bedding and sores that you could see in the picture. Broke my heart and he was home with me the next day, not even knowing any better at the time I knew it was wrong, all wrong.
