You may all remember a few months ago I took in some guinea pigs from a breeder that was neglecting animals and those he no longer wanted he was hitting on the head with a brick. Vikki's Fanny Adams also came from the same person.

Well he has managed to get around being ' investigated and prosocuted' by the RSPCA by claiming to be a rescue centre. He is now advertising as a resuce centre with guinea pigs and rabbits available for re-homing.
He takes regular deliveries of pure bred guinea pigs from a show breeder who no longer wants them and classes this as rescue work.

If he is questioned by the RSPCAs because the animals are too thin or suffering from skin condition then he uses the ' rescue ' word and all is forgiven.

Yet again the RSPCA fails the system....I give up with them!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the RSPCA needs a major overhaul, their methods are outdated and ineffective :(:( Unfortunately in the meantime so many animals are going to suffer for it.

Some people are just so 'cruel/heartless' mallethead What goes around comes around and one day....He will be dealt with!

OMG this is just wrong,i remember those piggies well as you know and I'm horrified to read this:)>>>,it seems its the rspca everywhere that are slack,i have reported 3 major neglect/abuse cases in the last few months and nothing has been done either, these poor animals just keep suffering,it seems the people like all of us who care are always the ones that dont have the power legally to shut these people down, dont give up keep on bugging them until something is done, you rescue so many piggies and just helping them and reporting who you can is making a big difference, keep your chin up xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We should not hate these people but pitty them and indeed what goes around comes around, so they will get whats owed

it should not be allowed to happen

Claire, this is shocking - and no doubt you and Vikki (and others) will end up dealing with all the "problem cases" yet again. Words fail me - how is it they (RSPCA) can be allowed to get away with non action.

i may be being naive, but if he's admitted to dispatching GPs with a brick, is he really allowed to have a 'rescue'?
or are the rules really that lax?
if he has made that admission in public, can a restriction not be put on him? i thought only vets and liscenced RSPCA workers could put non-livestock animal to sleep.
sorry i'm gob-smacked.
Becca

Just can't understand this Claire is there anything that can be done?
I'm sure this is the same person who a few months ago advertised as having a loving home for all pets that people could not keep!

Yes Sally, this is the same person. The sad thing is, a few that we removed last time that were suffering from neglect, had clearly been someones treasured pet at some point as they just didn't act like a scared, never been handled guinea pigs.

OMG that could have so easily have been my piggies thank goodness you helped me.
The majority of people would be heartbroken to think that their piggies that they thought were going to a lovely countryside home as I was told were actually being bred with to make money.grrrr

Oh this is so sad. I feel so sorry for these poor piggies. I dont understand why someone would keep getting animals just to neglect them.

I hope something happens soon, not just to take the piggies off him but to stop him going out and getting more. grrrr:(

this gives me a great urge to be violent and shout things and scream and have a fit. Luckily I can controll my anger on forums (won't be the same in the house)
though...
Does he really kill them when they can not be used or sold? that's aweful! skin conditions, skinnyness, neglect, this is torture!
I hope someone from the RSPCA reads this thread and realises what this person is doing

who on earth is the show breeder he's getting the piggys off? are they aware of the situation? If not can they be made aware-or do they not give a s**t? I can't believe this allowed to happen!

This is just one of the boars who was going to be destroyed.

I don't know what to say Claire. How could anyone destroy a beauty like that, I do hope he gets better.

I really hope someone manages to stop this- it's just downright awful ! Hope the poor little guy makes it.

I lost faith in the RSPCA during the foot and mouth crisis- how a so called animal charity could sit there and watch the carnage in the countryside was beyond me

Shortly after arriving he was fostered by Cheryl as he needed a lot of time spent on him. He's been spoilt rotten and has very nearly made a full recovery. Only yesterday we discussed the fact that he will soon be available for re-homing.

Unfortunately there are always people out there that do anything and everything to make a "quick buck" and earn a little cash on the side.

The breeder offloads the unwanted piggies to this guy because otherwise he would have to do the unhumane thing and euthanise the animals he doesn't want or are "not good enough" for breeding.

That the RSPCA is not doing much in those circumstances is a known thing. They are undertrained and understaffed and at the end for every person they take the animals from another two pop up doing the same thing.
And let's be honest....even though it hurts.....a lot of the animals the RSPCA rescues end up on death row and get killed because no new homes can be found for them. Thankfully their way of euthanise the animals is a bit more humane than a brick on the head!

Reallity should be that any animal sold as a pet should be de-sexed and only breeders with strickt and controlled licences should be able to breed the animals only if they have permanent homes for the litters to go to. That would get rid of a lot of "backyard breeders".

Problem is the RSPCA has to have evidence before they can do anything. They are probably very aware of what's happening but can't do anything about it.

Thats if he leaves here :)p. I don't want him to go because he is lovely. I have moved him into one of the other sheds so Jay forgets he is there. Wonder how long I can "foster" him for :))

This makes me so mad!

I used to have alot of faith in the RSPCA but it seems like they're not doing what they're supposed to...And I realized this a while ago.

Have you tried contacting your local paper?

I know it sounds odd but if you told them the story, they might investigate and some good may come of it.

he looks so sweet it makes me so sad to see piggies like that! When I tell people about how Amy was skinny and pregnant and full of mites you can tell they think well why did you get a previously sick piggie, surely your asking for problems in the future ! Why don't people get that these piggies deserve a loving home? & why do these people get away with treatubg piggies like this?

I must have missed this thread, this has completely shocked me, I can't believe someone could treat little helpless piggies like that 8...
