Vimto is a biter! My first piggie to ever draw blood rolleyes

She is so timid, I herded her into her chube last night for a weigh and when I covered the end she nipped me so hard it broke the skin! She is proving so hard to tame, she will take food at tea time but is so scared of everything. Sassy on the other hand is very very bold.
Vimto will be the 2nd timid Abby we've had, Putt was just as scared, at first we thought Putt was only a head as that was all you ever saw poking out of the villa window :)) But the bond we had with her after 3 years was incredible so there is hope!
Going to try more food bribery especially when I am collecting her to move her from the run to cage etc...

Anyone else got a vampire piggie?

Oh no, little wotsit. Well you can guess which one of mine is a biter - Mrs Fuzzy!! little cow bit me last night when I was trying to lift her back feet out of my top, but she bites quite often and has drawn blood. Is usually because we are stopping her doing what she shouldn't be. She is part abby too.

She is a little Lion :))

Tyrion my alpaca likes a good nip if he doesn't want you doing something to him like combing him or cutting his fur or stopping him going somewhere he shouldn't :)) Now my abby mixes don't bite and good job as one came in with a skin problem which I had to sort and meant baths every week and cream 3 times a day :))

:)) Tyrion, I love that name! Little monkey!

Cosmos (abby) used to bite when smaller but is now so affectionate she is a real licker.

I am hoping she will progress to licking....

Aww poor baby is so scared. Mine do not really bite hard. Amelia Jane will bite the little skin on my neck which I hate!

Poor little scared girl! I am sure that it will stop once she has got her bearings and got over her fear.

My two biters are and were both abys or aby x. Bethan will still tweak me whenever I cut the nails on her front paws, but I got her to stop biting me very quickly by making clear that I was neither fazed nor impressed by it. Thanks to some major desensitation from Minx...

I know bless her, she is so sweet but so scared. We are really trying to build her confidence she loves her cosy. So we are going to be using that at laptime for a while. This worked with Cookie and Treacle when they first arrived.

I however let out a very un-manly cry :)) So Vimto knows I'm weak! :))

Game of Thrones fan, the name suits him as he is comical as he flounces around :))

I thought so! Just about to start season 3, really looking forward to it!

I must be lucky then as twiggy my abby doesnt bite, he sometimes grates his teeth against my hand but hasn't bitten. I'm sure it must be painful though looking at the size of their teeth!

I'm sure Vimto is just a bit scared at the moment and you will have a different piggy in a few months x

None of my pigs are biters except Charlie. I don't know if it's connected but when he was living with Kenny (and being the big bully towards him), he was a lovely relaxed piggy. He never really sat still for cuddles but he liked his hair brushed. He never bit and I couldn't imagine him being aggressive. After they came home and I seperated them, Charlie started rumbling at Kenny through the bars, shaking the cage etc. He has turned on me too, I get rumbled at and he kicks his back legs at me if I go in his half of the cage. If I touch him, he sinks his teeth into my hand. He's actually pretty scary for a little piggy, he will just lunge and bite and he won't let go. I can't believe the change in him. :(

Bumble will give you a warning bite if you tickle his hairy toes (he is an Abby) - but has never broken the skin.

I have two biters Milkshake and Gracie. No aby in either they are just fussy little minxs. Gracie is nicknamed Trouble shes always up to some mischief usually involving biting Lizzies ears.

Oh no! Naughty Vimto!

Marley is a nibbler, rather than a biter. He's always quite gentle and has never drawn blood, but whenever you put your hand in the cage he'll toddle over, have a sniff and a quick taste to see if you are/have got food. He always sulks off looking very unimpressed when he realises my fingers are not carrots and I don't taste very nice :))

None of my boys bite. My aby was the most gentle loving piggy I've ever had. (RIP Ludwig) but I have a new little one now and I'm hoping he won't be a biter. He's just a normal smooth breed.

Romano occasionally gives me a warning nip if I accidentally tug on a knot too hard when I'm brushing and cutting his hair.

Invested in an oven glove especially for Murray! We used to have Minty (aby) who was a biter when he was young, but persistence paid off with regular handling and he realised he was safe with us. Murray was a different kettle of fish, using any opportunity to sink his teeth in! He's not as bad now and I think the fact that he spent most of his time thinking he was biting, but getting no reaction due to the protection of the oven glove so he got over himself! For the record, he's a dark eyed white short haired pig. :)

I may need your oven glove lol :))

Poor Vimto and poor you. Well my Gus was my vampire pig but he's much better now. It took him about 3 months to stop biting. I made sure I followed the same routine every time I touched him. Washed my hands so they didn't smell of food or another piggy, sat next to the cage and put my hand in so he can sniff it and get used to it being there, he'd start licking my hand and I'd tickle his nose, he'd snap to start with but soon got used to it and realise it was ok, he just learnt what I was going to do. It was a long slow process but I built up to being able to stroke him.
Picking him up is another matter! He's good at getting in to his carry box when I pop it in his house but he still doesn't like being picked up, I do get the occasional nip, he's fine once I've got him though.
She'll get there, you just might have to stock up on plasters in the short term!

my pig only nips my finger when she is hungry. Never drawn blood though!

My Latte has started biting me very hard since I got back from America. My arm is covered in teeth marks and even a bruise where she bit me the other night. When I first get her out, she's fine and sits nicely for cuddles. It seems to be when I get up to put her back in the cage. It's as if she's saying "hurry up, I want to go down". I have not been reinforcing this behaviour and holding her longer despite the biting. I wrap her in a fleece blanket and sit with her a while longer until she calms down, and then I put her back. I hope it's just a phase and she will stop soon. It's really painful :(
