Ugh, I hate this job. I wish I could afford to get someone else to do it but I can't so it falls to me. And DH actually, no idea how you do it single handed.

I hate trying to work out where the quick is, I think I have been a bit ginger about it in the past and so they have got a bit longer than they should but I'm terrified of hurting them. And Jenny, she just screws up her little hands into a fist and I can't get at her nails at all! Toes are fine, I can just about do them (except they are black, so a nightmare) but her hands she hates hates hates. And their little faces as they look at you, utterly betrayed.

I think I might swap the fleece in the run for sandpaper and hope it works on their nails like it does for budgies...

It's a difficult job, only one of my pigs stays still and Georgie, my black coloured pig has black nails so he and 2 of my others go to the local vet to have them done which is £5 per pig.I used to have a lady who ran a dog clipping service do them and she charged £2.

Patch hates it too, I've had to do her a foot a time. She attacks the nail clippers when she sees them. Mouse is better, though she has black nails and we have caught the quick on a couple of occasions :(

Yep, nail clipping is awful.I have a few with black nails.I have one if my rabbits nails to clip but keep putting it off.In all now I have forty feet to clip.

My keiko makes the saddest whining cry I've ever heard which causes those around me to insist I stop as I'm "traumatizing" him. He has black nails on his front feet and it's a chore! I usually just cut the tip off. My other pig has all pink toes but one time he squirmed and he did bleed. I'd never felt so awful in my life. He was totally silent and it was only two-three drops. He didn't even seem to notice it. I dabbed it gently with some cold water and he
Was fine but I felt like the worst person on the planet!

The rabbits are fine, they wear theirs out chasing each other up and down the concrete path. The pigs are great, they just lie there and let me clip them without a murmur. ;)

Benson is a nightmare as his nails are jet black and we've tried torch shining but we can't see a thing.
It's a 2 man job
my hubby sits under the standard lamp with benson. Then i take my glasses off as i am so short sighted I've actually got really good vision if I'm very close to things.

Now -confession time - I've actually nicked bensons quick twice (not in the same session i hasten to add!)

So, benson is pretty calm under the circs and his back feet are sort of ok

But when i do his little tippy toes at the front - remember i lean in really close so my eye is kind of his tooth level - well the little blighter - just sometimes he will let out an ear splitting shriek and i nearly jump out of my skin!

And I'm sure he just does it for a laugh as I've never drawn any blood and he'll just let me continue when ive composed myself!

Benson is a rex so his nails are so thick if i don't keep on top of it.

Mike will be a doddle - clear nails!

I totally love nail clipping.;)
I find it soothing and restful, and more relaxing that a day at a health spa.
I think the way I wrap them tightly in a blanket until they almost can't breath, and then forcefully pin them down has really helped our bonding process too.
Plus the way they 'sing joyfully' whilst I clip their dear little nails really shows me just how much fun we are all having.
I can't believe there are others out there who wouldn't cherish the special moments that nail clipping brings.
Obviously I would happily offer to come over to your place and spread the nail clipping love, but sadly I think you all live too far away :D

I find I get very anxious about doing it. Mine all have white claws so at least it's easy to see the quick. I've had ones with black feet before though and that's a nightmare. I used to do one of mine with a nail file - that way I didn't ever cut him but it took ages.
I would never attempt it on my own as I need both hands to do the clipping while OH cuddles the pig into submission:lol:

Will nail clip for cash and travel :)

It was also a nightmare for me. Teddy wouldn't stay still at all, and once I made him bleed. Felt awful afterwards. I still did cut his nails a few times after that, but I felt totally anxious about it so in the end everytime my brother came home I made him do it

I can do three of my four very easily but Romano my eldest (picture) has many curly black ones which I cannot do. So my vet does him but its an eyewatering price.

Yeah archie hates it, but I have my mother to help/distract him while I do it, so its quite easy. Dunno how id do it by myself. It is a shame guinea pigs dont bite their nails to keep them to the right length. Does anything like having their nails clipped? I always hated it, I took to biting my nails to keep them in check, never grew out of that. And our bird hates having his clipped too.
