Please don't think badly of me :(
Since Bailey passed to Rainbow Bridge my little Amber had not once wheeked :( I knew it was time for me to get her another friend.
None of my local rescues had any girls & I was scared of getting a boar & him having the GA for neutering.
I found an ad for a little girl in my local paper, so I went and had a look. I now have a very sweet 8 week girl called Coco.
She has been in a cage next to Amber's for the last few days and it's been so lovely hearing them talk to each other again.

I really wish I could have waited for a rescue pig to come up but I had to put Amber first too and she was so depressed. She had always been the loud one and not hearing her wheek was so wrong :(

I've just put them in a pen together for the first time with a big plate of veggies, everything is going really well so far. Lots of wheeking and popcorning :)

If she needs a friend she needs a friend, I must confess I am currently waiting 6 weeks for a friend for a lonely sow but then again she has never had a friend in the first place so guess a little longer won't hurt x).

You shouldn't feel bad, you was doing what was best for your little Amber. Can't wait to see the piccies of your sweet little girls :)

Don't feel bad, Amber's happy and that's important and Coco has a good home.
Wingus hasn't wheeked since he lost his brother- Dingus a month ago, its so sad, we're giving him lots of attention but we don't come up to scratch we're just not Guinea Pigs. I'm waiting for a baby rescue boar who hopefully will be born any day now, so won't be long now Wingus.

Never feel bad about giving an animal a home, especially if it it the right one for a lovely pet you already have. Now we have that out of the way where are the pigtures??

Why would you feel bad? You don't have a confession to make at all. You've made two piggies very happy after all. I agree, WE WANT PIGTURES.

Don't feel about it - you WERE looking first in the local rescues and as you say, Amber's needs take precedence. It is often not that easy to find a new friend for a bereft piggy quickly!

I am looking forward to pictures and hope that both your girls are settling together happily!

Coco needed a good home just as much as piggies in rescue do, so you made Coco and Amber both very happy. :)

i did exactly the same thing when Molly died. Parsley cam from a breeder, rather than a rescue. she's my self cream piggle, and i got her about 6 days after Molly died, despite feeling awful about it, but Allie was actually refusing to eat. she was so sad :(

i don't think you need to feel bad. rescue rehoming takes a while to sort out, rather than being on demand, as there's a lot of things that rescues like to go through to ensure that there's a good home waiting for their piggies. if your piggy was acting different, you definitely did the right thing by rushing to get her a friend. i'm sure that most people here would've done the same thing :)

Don't feel bad, you gave an animal a loving home, and that's always good.

We got our Willy from a shop, but we kind of felt like we were rescuing him because of the horrible conditions he was living in in the shop.

You did what you had to do, and now 2 pigs are happy! It's great!

Now... PIGTURES? :o

Where I live there are no smallie rescues, maybe a few counties away . . . and also very few breeders. I couldn't find a breeder of guinea pigs or anyone advertising unwanted guinea pigs, so I bought two from pet shops, because my Devlin had been alone for 6 months after her friend died. I know I shouldn't have bought them from pet shops but I really needed to get a friend for Devlin, she was so lonely.

Thanks peeps, I guess I just feel a bit bad because there are so many needy piggies out there in rescues, but looking at Amber & Coco running around together I know I've done the right thing for them.

Right the important things... PIGTURES

At the mo we're in a small 2 up 2 down, guineas cage is in the spare room with not much space with OH's desk in there and a chest of drawers. We don't have a proper garden either. Hopefully in less than 2 years we'll be able to afford a bigger place, then the plan is to sneak more in without OH noticing ;)

Poor Allie :(

I wouldn't feel right about getting a piggy from a rescue where I could just bring one home there & then either. I'd be worried they didn't have the animals best interests at heart.

You might have got pet shop piggies but you've now given them a good home, if you didn't get them someone might have just got them as an impulse buy and not really cared about them :(

Aww they are adorable x)

Good luck with sneaking more in, i think you'll need it :(|)

Good luck with the sneaking! :))

There are no guinea pig rescues where I live and I searched preloved, freecycle and gumtree for a few weeks for unwanted piggies before giving up and buying one.

P.S. Great piggy lips

You so did the right thing and they are both gorgeous.

just to point out, and this always makes me feel better about the fact that Allie is a P@H piggie, there is a good chance that if you hadn't gotten her, Coco would have ended up being a needy piggy in a rescue anyway. did the previous owners vet you thoroughly etc, or was it a first come first serve type thing?

by the way, stunning little girlies x)

however, i think you've made the same 'mistake' i made when i first got piggies...

one looks a fair bit older than the other. now you need another one just to make sure Coco will never be lonely if she outlives Amber (:() ...

... and thus the piggy addiction grows :))

Not particularly, I'd already told them I wanted her as a friend for Amber.

My mum said to me, I'll have to go through this all again at some point8... Amber's about 16 months now.

When I get a big house I want a herd of piggiesx)

Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing and seeing the new addition.

xx

if that's the case, there's a good chance that she could have ended up in a bad home

you've got a long time left to go yet :)

a few months ago, i had 5 piggies. and despite having adopted one recently, it's dwindled down to 3 8... however, i'm hoping to adopt more, as i don't think my girlies could use 48square feet of a run space :))

:)

Don't feel bad, as Flips said further up - every piggie deserves a loving home ;)

All three of my girls are pet shop pigs and I wouldn't change them for the world x)

I do understand how you feel though, I did feel kinda guilty when Simon got Pixel (as a surprise early Christmas present) as I'd been planning on taking in a rescue since we'd talked about getting another girl.

Amber needed a friend and she looks very happy wiht her new little pal

You did the best thing for Amber and for Coco, they both look adorable and happy - piggy lips are fab too! :<>
