Can you help me answer these few questions please as we need a little help and advice.

1/ They don't seem to be drinking much water from the bottles at all. They are weeing loads though, no doubt about that. How much do they normally drink?

2/ Our agouti Chunky Munky has VERY long claws, here is a pic:

I have her booked in with the vet a week on monday to get them cut. The other 2's claws are ok. How long should they be though and how do you clip them?

3/ Chunky is also very fat, do I need to put her on a "diet", if so how do I seperate her food. The RSPCA thought she was pregnant as she is so big but after an ultrasound they saw she isn't. How can I do that?

Thanks in advance

If your pigs get lots of fresh food they wont drink a lot of water, mine dont drink much but they get lots of fresh so that keeps there fliud up. When i do toenails I just clip off a little bit at a time, I just take off the tip of the nail you cna buy small animal clips at most department stores. I have a big boned girl who weights in at the same wieght as a adult male and she is not even 1 year old yet, her and her cage mate both eat the same stuff so I think you will find that some pigs are just bigger then others just like as humans, i would not worry about it too much

the amount they drink varies between pig to pig...
one of my pigs drinks fair amount and can empty a water bottle in a day! where as my other one hardly drinks at all from what i see

with dark claws i reccommend going to a vet unless you have experience for clipping because it is harder to se where the blood line stops in them.

she may be a little big, but without knowing her weight we can't really say if she is over weight but to be fair piggys like humans come in all shapes and sizes :)

Hi Suzanne,

I just wanted to say that I saw your gorgeous girls in the photo section, and i wouldnt worry about Chunky being big, she look just like my Ace who is very close to 3lbs and a very big girl but is healthy and happy :)

she could almost be chunkys long lost twin!

Wow they could really be twins, that's amazing! I am getting her weighed at the vets next monday so I'll know what she weighs then x

Some pigs are chunkier than others - I have Nerys who looks quite fat (and hoovers up any leftovers) and is huge compared to her sister, who is much more energetic. Both their weights are in the acceptable range, though!

If you really want to put her on a diet (which I don't think is necessary!), cut down on the pellets for her for a while.

Best have the vet to those claws for you - black ones are notoriously difficult to so, be cause you can't see the quick; if you want to try it yourself, at least then you will have a ggoos idea how far to cut back. I don't think that he will cut off a lot though!
