Well as everyone knows I have been worried about Fred, his weight (686), teeth and pellets. After monitoring him carefully and comparing him to the girls he seems normal, not to mention checking bits!

Anyway's my point, Fred is a very lightweight pig and has lost more weight still. I've been monitoring his weight gain and have came to the conclusion that Fred maybe wasn't a lone pig, maybe he did have piggie companionship before going to pets at home, and for whatever reason they got rid of him, It could have been a number of things.

Anyways when I got Fred you never seen him for dust and he was extremely timid, shy and didn't do much! I would maybe go as far to say he was depressed!

When I got Marvin he became more active and after 3 weeks he gained weight and weighed 910 at his best, when Marvin went he went back to his weight of exactly the same 868, and he became withdrawn again. Marvin was not Ideal company from his behaviour but maybe to Fred he was better companion than no companion.

Now the ladies are here, he is eating more, playing more, more friendly and generally I would say he is happy! He has already gained 16grams since monday!

Ok, so my theory is Fred was depressed (he is just a sensitive wee sole ")) and now he's happy, I even have popcorns to back that conclusion up! :<>

Am I crazy or does this sound possible?

Competition for food does make it more appealing! but if you are feeling lonely and depressed you either eat loads or nothing if you are me. Hopefully the girlies we teach him to bulk up!

You would still eat enough to live...his weight going from 910 too 868 shows he wasn't eating as much and then his weight just stayed the same. Since Monday he has gained 16grams, so I think he could very well have been depressed! :(

i think you have hit the nail on the head. Poor wee Fred, but at least he has his lovely ladies now, and I bet there is no looking back :)

You don't know how many hours I have sat watching them :)), to get to this conclusion! He is 100% happier him and wilma cuddle it is so cute, and pebbles well she just eats. I was cleaning the play pen last night and took everything out and sat down in it. Pebbles was running about pop corning :))! Only time I have seen her popcorn and it was after I took her toys out :))! Silly piggie! rolleyes

I think you might be right and the important thing is that Fred and the girls are happy!

I think any change is exciting for piggies. I sit by (or in) my piggies cage more than I am willing to admit and constantly move things around, take it out or add new things. They love it and it keeps their little minds working! I love them chatting...

Isn't it Fab :))! They got an extension on there run too, I shall get pictures as soon as possible I'm always over at the pigs lol! :))

nope when I was really depressed when I was breaking up with my ex fiance of 8 years, I literally had to be reminded to eat and drink as i was just not interested and lost over a stone in three weeks! Was not thinking about not eating, just never hungry or bothered. Your brain can do funny things to you when you are depressed!

I know, but it's piggies we're discussing and his eating pattern has changed and he is gaining weight since he has got companions!

When I was depressed I still ate just not much. Depression can be very different, it is not the same for any one person.

There are so many different forms of depression, so I think it is highly possible he was depressed and thats why I have seen such a change!

I find that my piggers were always more active if I was in the room doing things. If I was just sat reading then they'd be quiet too, but if I was on the phone or tidying or even if I just had the TV on, then they'd be out eating, wheeking, playing or watching me :) :)) Such sociable creatures!

was not disagreeing with you joanne just saying that without company food is not that important as it will always be there! if he has to eat it to get some then he will eat quicker and more! I sure he is delighted with the company and who could not be with those gorgeous girls!

Lol sorry I may be a tad on the defensive side today but it's the only conclusion I could have come up with, anyway by the looks of things I'm just glad to have happy piggies but you do have a point! Him and Pebbles are the greedy guts feel sorry for Wilma she is so tiny! She only weighs 817 shall need to fatten her up! :)!

Jive loses weight when he is on his own as he has no competition for food! he lost a bit of weight after the surgery and got very frustrated with the bar of the cage with the girls so close but so far, but would eat when they were eating.... silly boy! I am sure they will either gain or lose a little bit with everything changing but hopefully it will settle to a happy medium

Yes I think you are right, just like us, our mood affects our weight, we either can't face food or we comfort eat and get fat!

Glad he is happy and getting fatter anyway! :(|)

Just updating my theory! In a week since the girlies have arrived Fredo now weighs 900 grams but wee Wilma is only 815 grams so need to fatten her up too. I think my piggies take after me we're all small boned! :))

Everyone is healthy and eating very well :)!
