I have finally cracked it!

The piggies are now litter trained... O0

They have half of their cage at the moment with litter trays in and newspaper and hay... The rest i covered in newspaper and straw... They only pee on the hay i have found so the hay stays in the litter trays only...

Vet bed next! Woooohooo! I can also get cuddle cups now for when they go outside!

I'm so jealous, you must have the patience of a saint.
So far i've tried it with at least 10 guineas. In the end they all get their own way and wee wherever they please. Funnily enough it seems to please them to go on me alot of the time aswell :-\ ;)
 
Its only taken them a day to get it though! Thats the thing! I have no doubt if i put hay all over the floor of the cage they would pee everywhere..

Thing is now though they love lying in their litter trays ::)
 
I wish my lot were litter trained! Especially the babies who seem to think that the food dishes are the toilets (yuk)
 
well done! :) i think i might attempt this! What did you use as a litter tray? I've seen the plastic corner litter trays, did you just fill it with newspaper and hay?

tell us your secret please! lol ;)
 
Well done! Mine used to only pee in their litter trays, but then I changed the size and shape of the cage and they got confused I think.
 
Ok well they are not 100% trained i have found out! but there is only the occasional pee outside of them... and they still poo on the paper but the majority is in the litter tray...

I have got an old hamster cage bottom about 2ft x 1ft and put newspaper and hya in that one and i have got a smaller cat litter tray with the same... I have made sure there is enough for all of them to stretch out and lie in them...

In the rest of the cage they just have newspaper and straw down and hidey holes etc... They tend not to pee on that...

They absolutely love the litter trays and the mother who was still extremely scared and would run if you went near has taken to staying out a bit more now and taking food from the safety of the litter tray instead of inside her house...

Basically as soon as the trays went down they spend most of their time in them... and that is the only place they have hay so they wee there!
 
Sounds like you've achieved the unthinkable, ive never tried doing it myself, but ive heard others say how difficult it is. Well done you and well done piggies.
 
Well done it must have been hard work but very rewarding .my 2 just do it over us lol
