As those of you that have seen my other thread know.
One of my piggies just passed away after a op.
obviously I'm devestated, but right now my priority must be Leo, i cant be locking myself away and crying when he needs me. Ever since Kay left he has been hiding away, not being sociable, not taking treats. He's obviously missing Kay. But i dont know what to do to help him.
Obviously getting him a new friend is the end goal but that in itself i have no idea how to go about, and after this id rather not have to neuter him. Hes all i got left.

I am again so sorry for your loss. I cannot begin to comprehend what you must be feeling like. (BIG HUGS)

Obviously Leo must be missing Kay and he will soon realise Kay is not around... Has leo met Kay to say goodbye? Will you be doing this? It might (or may not) help Leo to understand and grieve.

This time is a delicate and hard time for you both and it is really tough of you to be strong for Leo. Leo I assume will be really quiet and not himself for a while.

I personally would just let Leo grieve, give him lots of cuddles and treats and keep an eye on him. He may not have his normal appetite at the moment either. Hopefully he will perk up soon.

After he is feeling a bit better, it might be best to go boar dating and he can pick his own friend.

I hope all works out for you both x

Let Leo take leave of Kay if that is possible, or leave him with a cosy/fleece etc that bears Kay's scent to snuggle up with while you look around for a new friend. Give Leo time to mourn for a few days until he will hopefully come out of the worst of it by the next weekend or so.

Members of this forum are collating a list of recommendable guinea pig rescues in Britain on this facebook page (look out for the message with the map link):

Many of these rescues offer "boar dating", rebonding a single or bereaved boar of all ages with a character compatible new friend to create a stable bond. The best way is to ring around so you can set up a date; it may take a few days as many rescue people are very busy. It is worth going a bit further afield to have the bonding done under expert supervision, as you maximise the chances for a happy companionship while minimising your risk of picking up the pieces if things don't work out.

I would think about neutering only if there has been no success with several rounds of dating and only with an experienced and recommended vet.

I went through this exact same situation with my four year old boar, Parkin. He was depressed and grieving for a while, and wasn't interested in much. He lost a bit of weight too. However, after a few trys, I have managed to find him a young boar friend, and they are now settled down together, and hopefully will become best friend. I highly recommend boar dating, but only under the supervision of someone who knows what they are doing - aka a rescue!

This is what i plan to do, but i am having difficulty finding somewhere near (Essex) that does it. I do not drive but my mum has said she is willing to drive me a maximum 2hr journey.
Leo is such a laid back piggie i dont think it'll be a problem for him to find a friend, but i want it done properly.
