A dog recently, I am a student vet nurse atm so I work in the vets, a lady brought a 12 year old order collie cross shih tzu in to be put to sleep a few weeks ago as she was moving to Australia, personally I think that is sick as the woman had had this dog 12 years and said she loved her to bits, yet she was going to not only leave her behind she was gonna put her to sleep as she couldn't find a home for her. Safe to say cuz I am soft hearted I said I would take her till I found her a home, I never found her a home, people wouldn't take her as she is quite old, though you cannot tell in the slightest. So far I have had to pay £300 for a dental as her teeth were pretty much rotten and I now pay for metacam as she has arthritis, and the owner didn't even take her to the vets, I have also had a blood test to make sure everything else is a fine and she is now fit as a fiddle and I am keeping her :)
Her name is Stella and this is her

awww good on you! I'd be inclined to think she wasnt actually moving and new she needed other treatment!

Well done you, and hello to Stella - she is a cutie :)

I can't believe people do this to their 'beloved' pets, it wouldn't even be an option to me.

Stella is gorgeous. Awful that they would just have her put to sleep. Great that you could take her in. :)

Yeah, I started to believe that the treatment was the problem. Really still irritates me that people could just put a pretty much healthy animal to sleep, she is adorable :) I just love her. Glad I could take her :)

ahh shes gorgeous i think its disgusting that people get their animals put down because they are no longer convenient

She's lovely. 12 isn't old, she could have another 5 years in her. I sympathise with the dentals,it's amazing how many people don't bother looking after teeth properly. She's in good hands now, it's quite common though for people to just take healthy animals to be pts as you probably know, so sad :0

Well done you....

looks like she has found a good home and you have found a good dog.

She looks happy and beautiful x)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only sucker for a sob story! :D

Good on you for taking her in - I know all too well the perils of working in a veterinary surgery!

Probably not the best idea ever working in a vets for me, I'm a sucker for any animal what so ever, specially guinea pigs, a woman came in a few weeks ago with a 6 month old guinea and she was beautiful, our head nurse pretty much took her away from the owner as the poor piggie couldn't breath and was pretty much blue and the owner said is it gonna cost more than £20 and we were like yes, and she was like oh I'll just take her home to die its only a guinea pig, its the 3rd one this year that hasn't lived past a year I was gobsmacked, luckily Sandy our head nurse treated the piggie any way and I was gonna take her in, but the poor baby died after 2 hours. 8...
Seriously there is some stupid people.

Awwwww Stella is gorgeous what a sweetie! Well done for taking her in :)

awww shes so lovely, poor old lass having to be put through all that crap, horrible horrible woman, thank god if she is emigrating, good riddance.....she did not love her dog.

Congrats, i am so happy for you, you should be proud x

OMG my dog is nearly 11 and I wouldn't part with him for the world, it'd be like getting rid of one of my children.
That's so sad that people have this throw away attitude, like she's an old pair of shoes :(.
I'm really glad that you've taken her in and given her a proper home, I have a bit of a soft spot for collies as my old boy is a collie x GS.
