This morning when I gave them their breakfast, I was startled by a funny noise, a sort of hard noise almost like a very quiet squawk if that makes sense. I monitored them all to see who it was as nobody was opening their mouth to do the noise, they were also all carrying on eating. It turned out to be Truffle.

She looks otherwise fine, nice bright eyes, as I say, eating for all she's worth . . . I heard this cough about five times and then it went quiet.

Is it just a rogue cough? It seemed to start just as she started to eat, could she have swallowed a bit of food the wrong way and it made her cough to shift it? But then I haven't been sitting there all night listening to her . . .

Is a vet trip in order? I'ev gone a bit into panic mode.
Help!

Mine cough and sneeze occasionally. One of mine has allergys and can sneeze and get a bit wheezy. Did you listen to her chest? If its crackling she will need to go to vet but at the moment i would just keep a close eye on her.

Damon makes a funny noise if he gulps food down too fast and it sounds like a cough! I think its just that he puts too much food in his mouth at once.

Yes it sounds to me like she tried to eat too much at once. Fluffy does this quite a bit. Greedy monkeys!

Pudsey does this a lot, I was worried about him but he is fine, he only does it when eating! Twinkle does it too at times!

I noticed my Joe was a nit snuffly the other week so i listened to his chest on both sides and nothing sounded wrong. I think it was when he was eating too. I read my Peter Gurney book and it said for sniffles you can put Olbas oil on piggy noses i didnt fancy doing this so i put a few drops on a tissue and taped it high up to the side of the boys hutch so he could smell it.

It cleared up quick now he is fine. :smitten:

yep mine do this to put so much food in his mouth and then cant chew it so he ends up chocking, ::) ::)

duke and meeka choke quite often when having a drink they rag at the bottle that too much omes out and they end up choking ::)

I’m glad you posted this, one of my pigs (I don’t know which one) keeps having a little cough, but if it’s Treacle then he is actually a pig when it comes to food. As long as it’s pretty normal.

Thank you so much for all your replies! Her chest sounds ok and she is otherwise bright and perky and eating plenty!

I think you're right, cos I haven't heard it again, but will keep an eye on her. Thanks all xx

:P

What, the noise she made, you mean? Yeah I guess it could be described as a bit of a coo! Is that how they cough?

Yeah that's the noise Fluffy makes when she eats too much at once. I wouldn't worry to much about it.
