am i the only person who cant say no when someone asks me to take in unwanted pets, this time last year i had 6 guineas i now have 31 :smitten: i'm incubating a pheasant egg, i have another rabbit coming soon that is well cared for but is so aggressive towards its owner they are to scared to keep him, i have 8 cats which are mostly strays and tonight ive taken in another cat and 3 five day old kittens because there owner is having to move in the morning and cannot take them with her, she has contacted rescues and all they could offer was to put her on a waiting list. At this rate i think I'm going to have to move as the pets i have at the moment amount to over 60 ( to scared to actually work it out ) and thats not including my fish and believe it or not the majority of them are unwanted pets ive even had to go out and buy a tank just so that i can take them. Friends and family tell me i should work with animals, imagine someone like me working for a rescue they would never have any animals to re home as they would all be living with me ;D

:o wow that is a lot of animals! it must cost a fortune to feed them all :)

:o i dont count the cost either that really is to scary to know ! i also have 6 chinchillas, 2 hamsters, a gerbil, 6 mice, and 3 rabbits( at the moment) :) i cant help myself i just love animals and caring for them gives me so much pleasure, i no longer have holidays as i wouldn't trust anyone to provide my pets with the same treatment as they get now. My days are planned with military precision to ensure that my pets daily needs are met, in the day i have guineas running around the kitchen and in the evening the chins have the hall, stairs and landing to explore :smitten:

swoon, faint, passout :o :o :o you must have a big house to have so many O0 just be careful incase some one reports you for having so mnay animals. i am in oz and a lady up the road had 8 cats, 4 dogs, aviary of birds, she kept the clean, vetted, healthy, she lived a lone and all the animals were quiet, and some jerk reported her for having so many animals she had to get rid of all the animals except for the aviary, 2 dogs and 3 cats. the lady was so upset she couldn't get rid of her babies, she ended up passing away and leaving everything to her pets O0 neighbours contested the will but the court ruled in her favour and her animals and the court fined the council for not being more sensitive to the lady and her needs. >:( >:( >:( sending hugs to you and all your babies maybe you could buy an ark ;D ;D ;D
i am like you whilst other half loves animals he is more realistic and can say no ::) ::) ::) good luck with your brood :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

An ark i never thought of that ;D
my other half tries to be realistic but if something genuine comes along that goes out the window ;D

oops forgot to mention my dogs and they are not happy with me :tickedoff:

sorry scooby and scrappy mommy loves you :smitten: :smitten:

I don't know if we in the uk can get in trouble for having too many pets, maybe too many pets in a built up, urban area...? I have loads but live in countryside so it's not really a problem

but yeah I was asked on tuesday if i would take 2 guineas on that a family didn't want anymore, but have yet to hear back about that....i immediately said yes, can't say no ;D

Believe me, you are not the only one that just can't say No to animals.
Domestic animals just can't fend for themselves anymore and if we leave them out there without proper care they just pass away - too sad for that!
The duck I rescued lives now happily on a farm with a dam and other ducks for company - so I'm happy with that.

Yes, OZ has regulations on how many animals you can keep in a suburban area without licence, some types of animals are not allowed at all in suburbia - which I find fine (Sheep, goats and horses don't belong in a small backyard!)
I don't think there is a restriction on bunnies, piggies and birds though - it probably also depends on the neighbours and how noisy or smelly the animals are.

Good on you, for taking in the animals and helping them.

well people say to me "you cant save every animal" and my response is " no this is true but i can make a difference to some" and surely thats worth it :D

we have 24 animals now...we own our house but i know people who live in council houses, like my mum they are only allowed so many animals..

my auntie owned hert house and she lived in the suburbs and she had a lot of chooks, so many people reported her for the chooks-they were clean and didn't smell that in the end the council said get rid of them or move. so she moved onto a farm. but i know here in south oz that you are only allowed 2 dogs unless one or more are working dogs, and 3 cats, it is no wonder so many are waiting for homes or sleeping for ever :'( :'( :'( guess every country and state is different. :o :o :o

Well, here in Victoria, our council has a law and I just read it the other day because I was told that our neighbour shouldn't have that many cats (5) on their property.
We are allowed no more than four different animals on a property and mostly no more than two of any kind (2 cats, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 2 ferrets etc) except birds (10 the limit) and unlimited fish. The people living in an appartment are not allowed as many again, due to space contrictions.
And than there is various fine print to consider...... :o >:(

Hence the reason the shelters are full of dogs and cats and rabbits.

WOW thats alot of mouths to feed hehehe. I'd end up with loads too only my other half always says no :'(

I have this problem to, just cant say no.

My friend came round last night and one of the first things she said was 'you don't want another hamster do you' Its the usual story her friend bought it for her kid around a year ago and the kid lost interest so her friend has had to clean it out all the time and doesn't want it anymore. So me being me said just couldn't say no ;D He's coming tomorrow with his cage too, just hoping it's a good size one or I'll be straight out to buy him a bigger one so he's got lost of room to play and explore.

The funny thing is my German Shepherd is scared of them ? ;D so she'll be hiding when they have floor time, yet she's fine with the pigs, shes a softy!

Wow - you have some amount of animals! That must be a full-time job looking after all them. I spend enough time just looking after 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs. Would absolutely love to have a house in the country with loads of animals like that though - that would be a dream to me! :smitten:

You are not alone! I can't say no either - but at least my "problem" only applies to guinea pigs! Up until 2005, I had one herd of females with a neutered male in charge. I am a teacher, and a girl at school who knew I was a guinea pig enthusiast asked me if I could take her much-loved guinea pig when her family emigrated to Australia. The unfortunate thing was that he was a male! Could I say no? Of course not. I said yes. They got him neutered, I had a whole new hutch and another giant walk-in pen built, and then when he arrived I had to get him several girlfriends for company. Another person like us was the late great Peter Gurney. He said in one of his books that he had a speech impediment. Whenever anyone asked him to take in another guinea pig, his lips wouldn't form the word "no" and it always came out instead as "oh alright then"!
