Yesterday I rescued my newest furry family member. My husband called her tinkerbell. She is about 4 months old probably pregnant I am assuming as she was in with 7 other guinea pigs. And 1 of them I know of was her dad (I can see a slight poof about her hind end but gotta wait and see). The sad part of things is her mama had litter after litter (4-5 back to back litters). And her mama looks healthy enough. But I am considering going back for more of them. 8 guinea pigs (previous to adoption in a cage 2 inches smaller than a 2x4 c&c cage). No hiddies, no toys just 2 food dishes and 1 water bottle. And whatever was cheaper on the bedding (admitted to using cedar bedding to me). Makes me want to cry.

They all had grass but never got any Timothy hay!

Oh poor little things. I've just temporarily taken on 4 piggies in a somewhat similar situation. Atleast you've saved one! And I bet she'll have a wonderul life!

I just got to make a vet appointment to make sure that she's in tip top shape.

I think that she may be pregnant, cause she is very touchy about her stomach.

That and I rescued her 3 other brothers. In a cage that is about 24in by 46in cage, 8 piggies total in the cage. So I rescued half of them. My husband wasn't too happy at first about more piggies. But I think that they are melting his heart.

Awwww bless, her. She will need watching close for pregnancy. Unfortunately there is a high chance she will be pregnant in those conditions :(

Even if she didn't have brothers. Her dad was in the cage. Her mom had about 4 to 6 back to back litters. I felt like she was better off with me than staying where she was.

All I can do for the most part. Is see to it that she has a comfortable place to stay. And plenty of pellets, vegetables and hay.

If you are worried about a pregnancy, please open a thread infor Tinkerbell in our pregnancy section for ongoing support in which you can ask any questions etc. along the way. We have got some great and detailed guides for owners with an unplanned pregnancy at the top of the section.

Once I know for sure that she is I will. I am going to give it a couple of weeks to see if she's just filling out. Since she didn't have all that great of a diet before my home.

Please treat any potentially pregnant guinea pig as such. We offer specific diet advice, as a controlled optimal diet in one of the most important factors is optimising the manageable risk factors at birth. This is even more important if the sow in question has not had a good start. The better the diet during a pregnancy, the better mum and any developing pups are faring; this has a major effect on their survival chances after birth.

By the time you will notice a pregnancy, you are usually about three quarters through it, but depending on the size of the litter, it could be later.
