Okay so I was going to feed my 2 piggies, I put my hand in the bag to grab some food and I guess a HUGE spider crawled on my hand, I went to put my hand in the cage and I saw the spider crawling up my arm and my mind went blank. I started screaming and yelling and started swatting the spider away and I saw it running back over to me(I was sitting cross legged in front of the piggies cage) so I made a fist and just started hitting the spider as hard as I could, after a good 5 hits it was dead lol. I looked over at my girlies and Rusty was looking at me as if I was insane and Lillith was hiding in her hut
Sorry piggies.:p

Oh No! Spiders in the pig food! I'm going to have to have a really careful check before I put my hand in now...:red

Argh! I would have screamed too, spiders scare me (I know it's silly but I can't help it!)

Piggies: Mummys gone insane o.o

I hate spiders too but I'm so scared I can't even kill them, I flee and scream for my mum who loves spiders. xD

So do I! I was shocked I even hit it, I just kind of went on auto pilot! Lol

I once found several small black wingless biting insects in the piggy dry food bowl. They were biting me while piggy and bowl were sat on my lap. I could not identify them or discover where they came from until a search of the dry food bag found them in there. The shop replaced the bag for me but ever since then I have put new unopened dry food bags in the freezer overnight before I open them to make sure any nasties are killed.

YAY good on you!
I'm petrified of 's' things......... nothing will get near my babies either! in fact one of those 's' things was on their bag of hay and it nearly fell in with them this morning, i flicked it and stomped!
Te he.......i bet they both thought mom had gone bonkers :(|) i expect they needed a treat and you did too!

sorry to all the 's' lovers.... :red

I'm not a lover of eight-legged creatures per se, but it breaks my heart if I accidentally kill one, especially when they meant me no harm. I was very sad a couple of weeks ago when I brushed a tiny spider with very large eyes off of my garden tractor so I wouldn't hurt it, and that was the very action that killed it, and I could almost see the shock come over it as it slowly curled into a death ball. There's a wolf spider or two that lives in the basement and one comes into the bathroom once or twice a year, and I simply take her outside or encourage her to go back the way she came They don't startle me, and once in a while I'll find one that seems to play with me. BUT if it is a brown recluse spider or a black widow spider or any other spider that can cause injury or death to mammals (including ME!), its life is forfeit. If it can't be distinguished from one of the bad ones, it's guilt by association and I apologize to it as it dies. I certainly wouldn't tolerate them in the pet food. I am sorry one frightened you, unexpected ones are the worst.

Normally I hate killing them too, I killed an ant and I was so sad so I see where your coming from. When I killed the spider I think I kind of just did it on instinct if that makes sense lol.

You would be surprised but the freezer is not guarunteed to kill the eggs of some insects.. so when you pull the bag out and it defrosts the eggs may still hatch down the line.. I would use a cup to scoop out the nuggets from now on and a spoon to inspect.. How weird tho! wingless biting insects.. If you can find one and get a photo for me I may be able to ID it for you.. I'm a bit of a bug lover!

My OH the other day got a dress of the radiator after it had dried, tried it in changed her mind, while taking it off i noticed a house spider about 3 inches across climbing under her arm (got onto dress from radiator). I brushed it off quickly before she realised, when I told her what had happened she nearly had a fit as she is an arachnaphobe. I tried very hard not to laugh, promise.

OMG i hate spiders i had an incedent with one in the bin i opened the lid and with opening it fast the woosh of air made the humongus spider swing about I'm not sure still how the guinea poop made it in the bin but it did :...

I do realise the freezer isn't 100% but it's a start to getting rid of the live wriggly nasties so they don't get out of the bag and invade other places in my home! And yes since that experience, I sift very carefully through the boys' food when I scoop it out, because I won't use it if I find dead or live nasties in there.

If I do find more bugs I can't identify, I will be sure to get a photo and PM you! This incident was a while back so all those bugs are no longer with me, thank goodness. The weird thing is the food is produced locally by a local animal feed milling company so I'm pretty sure the insects were local too but nothing I have ever seen before.

Ha ha, just realised your moniker is Dusty_bugs!

haha, yeah! It's nice that you get local produce.. I'm pretty big on supporting stuff at home.. I bow my head and admitte I go to P@H to get nuggets and muesli (the girls get a handfull fo each at din dins).

I still can't imagine how grimmed out you must have been when you first realised that you had little wigglies :( I'd have curdled! Despite my love for the wigglies, I dont do them in le food! Hahaha
