So it’s a week today since I lost my Odin, my best friend and love of my life. Each day is even more difficult than the last. I’ve had animals all my life, I even work with animals. I’ve lost horses, dogs and rodents along the way, and I loved them all. But Odin was different, I felt love I’ve never felt before.
there simply aren’t words to explain the love I had for Odin, and the bond we had.
After nursing him back from a Giardia infection as a baby (it was touch and go), my little boy became very attached to his mummy. 2020 has been a very difficult year, but I have lockdown to thank for getting to spend every day with my boy.
It is most likely that careless breeding cursed my poor boy with so many problems, from bladder problems, abscess problems, dental problems and ultimately respiratory problems. But I nursed him through it all, day and night. Several trips from Manchester to Northampton to see the best vets in the country (I’ll never be able to thank Kim and Simon enough)!
but it’s not those times I want to remember. When I think of my Odin, I remember him pop Corning around the house, sleeping on my chest, grooming me, following me around, and his gorgeous little face lighting up when I would enter his room.
I think of him up there now, with all my other babies. Telling them about our adventures, pop Corning around and eating all his favourite treats.
Odin truly was a fighter, to come back from everything that he did. And he had such an amazing time the last few months. Even till the end, he was the heaviest he’s been, and he was happy. Just the day before he passed he was still pop-corning, chasing Thor, eating lots and loving life.
I think he went the way I always wanted him to. Even that morning, he ate his favourite leaves, cuddled with his mum... and then just lay down with Thor and went to the bridge very quickly and peacefully. It was the peaceful end I would have wanted for him; I just didn’t think we would have to say good bye so soon.
But my boy, seriously ill, but still fighting and living his best life right till the very end.
My biggest worry is that he’s ok now, that he’s happy and safe and healthy. As we were never apart. But this week he’s been letting me know that he’s happy. Thank you for the feather my boy, and your hair appearing on the window sill.
We even took you on a final road trip, to your favourite vets after you had passed. For I would never trust anyone else. And we will take them the Xmas card and present you wanted to give them, on Xmas eve. And we will definitely listen to your favourite song on the way there.
I hope I did enough my boy, I hope I gave you the amazing life you deserved. I’ll never love another like I do you, but I’ll do my best to help and love all the animals that I possibly can (in your memory).
Odin, you really were my whole world. And I know you’ll be waiting up there for me. time is different up there, so you won’t be waiting long my gorgeous boy. I’ll love you always, more than anything. You rest now my boy, and you enjoy the happiness you so deserve

I feel so lucky to have got to know him and you through it all but gutted I won’t meet him and have a cuddle like I’d hoped, he sounded like such an amazing piggy ❤ And so beautiful of course!
