Just went to the pet shop to stock up on essentials for over the Christmas period. I noticed that the four ginger boars are still there - it’s been five months now. I guess they are now getting towards being too old (they’re six months old) for a lot of people to consider them, plus they are all ginger and the staff think that may also be working against them (I personally think they’re gorgeous one has a little white crest). I have walked past them for so long now that I am getting sad that they are still there.
I have pondered bringing two of them home but there are a fair few things against it.
1. How will Dex and Pops take to there being another set of men in their man shed?
2. The fact that they have to be in my shed and the temperature change from their warm environment to my shed may well be too much at this time of year.
3. The only spare cage I’ve got is a hospital cage at just 100cm, it is too small for them to live in for the winter. I have another hutch but it’s outside and won’t fit in the shed.
4. Hubby will go mental - although after his stupidity of last week with the microwave incident, I’m not sure he’s in a position to comment!

I think maybe these things are too much for me to be able to have them and that I need to put them out of my mind and avoid the pet shop forever more...!

Looking at piggies is a dangerous business... thats how we ended up with Theo, and then Jezebel and Clover, and then Blodwen- I was just browsing the free ads when... oops!
First I would think about how your existing piggies will feel about it. Then how you'll manage the cage etc. Is what you can offer better than the pet shop?
Then I personally would order a huge C&C and set it up in the bedroom and tell the husband he can sleep in the 100cm cage in the shed after the microwave business :)
I reckon you are leaning towards bringing them home because everyone on the forum will be wanting you to now!

I actually blame the pet shop for putting the piggies enclosure right where I didn’t have any need to walk to get to the items that I actually wanted.... imagine if it was right in the middle and you had to walk past it....!
I’ve walked past plenty of piggies since I’ve had mine and yes, they were very cute but the urge to bring them home is heightened with these because they’ve been there for so long now and it tugs on those heart strings.
I suppose any new additions could live very very temporarily in the 100cm until a lovely new 150cm arrives. It could sit on top of the boys hutch in the shed for winter and then they could move into my spare hutch outside for the summer. I am not sure my two boys would be too happy with two other boars in their environment though.
Is what I can offer better than the pet shop - yes and no. Yes because currently the four ginger boars are all living together in one enclosure - four together....how they are still amicable I have no idea. No, because of the temperature change. Although that is manageable - I am able to keep my two boys warm enough now so I don’t see why any more would be different.
Hubby living in the shed is an absolutely fantastic idea, although I am pretty sure I would still hear his snoring....

I went to look at some Christmas presents for my piggies at Petco yesterday. I ended up looking at the piggies, talking with Adina the store manager, and petting other dogs that were also shopping at the store. I was glad I did pick up some chew sticks for my piggies in the end, and actually did what I was supposed to do.
I will be visiting Petsmart today for Christmas presents, and more than likely, I will be looking at piggies again.

Well, I told the hubby and he said under no circumstances am I allowed any more piggies and that if I do then he was going to get another motorbike (he already has more motorbikes than I have pets so this is hardly fair). So, my plan is to now talk him into getting another bike, so that I can get more piggies!

Aw, just go for it! I’m sure Harley and Davidson will be far better off with you than stuck in a pet shop over Christmas :lol!:

Why is it men always dictate how many piggies a person should have? My OH is just the same 🤔

he just sees them as another job I have to do and he thinks I’m busy enough (two jobs, albeit one of them is with our own company, two kids, and a volunteer role) but he just doesn’t understand that my animals are my passion and I would always make time for them regardless. Sitting out with them is my relaxing time just like his is riding round for hours on end on his bike.

@Betsy - it’s the same with me. I don’t ask my husband to do a single thing to help me with them, and that’s on purpose. It annoys me that he thinks he can tell me I can’t have any more pets when they actually don’t have a single shred of impact on his life (other than finding hay in random places around the house!)

Hubby has a limit of 3 piggies. He keeps on saying we can't afford more than that (well HE can't coz he pays for all the vet fees and hay & food..I pay for the paper bedding and all the ridiculous amount of fleece bedding and house they have hahaha). Although we don't have problems with the hay getting everywhere. It's their flipping hair that goes everywhere! Sometimes hubby would complain it's on his undies! :lol!: We even find hair from our old piggies that passed away. Up to now we can sometimes find hair of Bunny (she passed away May this year), which is white and a bit curly and soft (she's a swiss teddy). None of our current piggies have such hair. Oh considering we have a horsebag that we use for washing their fleece.

I passed by a gorgeous black boar in P@H a few weeks ago who was all by himself, and the staff allowed me to have a cuddle... I resisted bringing him home as I have two sows and, although I could make space for a second cage and have him neutered, the main issue is that I'm away quite a lot on weekends, so it's not the right time for me. I felt it would have been too impulsive a decision then.

If your husband has nothing to do with them and it's your money, then bring them home and tell him to get another bike! ;) :D

That said, they're not suffering or in need of a home, so to speak. If you buy two, the pet shop will only replace them with more, and December/January is when rescues see an uptick in surrenders. Perhaps wait until after Christmas and see how you feel then?

I saw a super relaxed boy piggy at the Petsmart today. He was sleeping outside of his hidy with his eyes closed, which is not something I see my piggies do often. This little boy was super cute with such a cute little face.

I did get Christmas presents for my piggies, a ginger bread toy doll, mini-corn, and chew sticks, which I opened tha bag and gave them some already even though it isn't even Christmas yet. XD.

I'm not sure my washing machine would cope with any more fleece liners!

I'm very lucky that piggy daddy just loves piggies. Can't get enough of them. If only he could pay the vet bills... teaching assistant wages dont even cover the monthly hay and bedding bills! He always feeds them a week's worth of expensive hay in one sitting too...
